Yes, but suggest you're doing something wrong, as SRAM ones will fit, and Shimano only did quick links for a very short time when they introduced 7900 groupsets.

The KMC come in a shimano 10 speed option:

I have been using them for ages with no problem.

I've got a KMC one on my 105 chain just now. Mind you it's had a SRAM one in it as well, til I lost half of it.

Njee20.......sram 10 did not fit 10 speed shimano hgx chain and maybe it was shimano 9 speed I tried, not 10??! Hhhhm, maybe it wasn't sram 10 afterall??!!

Best if I check when I go home later!!

Thanks for replies

The only quick links Shimano have done full stop was a small batch of 10 speed ones several years ago, and they were crap, so they soon reverted to pins - are you sure you've got a Shimano one?

SRAM 10 speed ones are Power Locks, they're black, and they will often require a stamp on the pedals to get them to 'lock' in place - at which point you'll really struggle to get them apart without some pliers or similar.

9 speed (gold) ones will also work though - they're wider than the 10 speed chain after all.

In what what do the ones you've tried not work?

OK, so I'm now doubting what I have tried, definitely tried gold ones!!

I'll wait until I've got the different links infront of me instead of guessing which ones I've tried, I'll be back later!!

Have definitely tried gold ones!!

Erm probably covered elsewhere but at the risk of sounding stupid:

Can you keep re-using a chainlink? Thinking that removing my chain on a regular basis would make it easier to clean (the chain and the jockey wheels).

You can re-use the gold sram ones, and been running a 9 speed link on my 10 speed fine. The KMC are re-susable too.

I've used chain links before, gold sram ones and using 9 speed link on 10 speed BUT none seem to fit this HGX Shimano chain......I'm just wondering if its got something to do with HGX chains as opposed to non-HGX?

Right enough, it was a 9-speed SRAM I used on my road bike not a 10-speed. But the KMC is definitely 10.

ps......hgx chain came with a connecting pin, not a chain link thingy! I dont suppose this means that only pins can be used?

There could be a tiny bit of swarf in the plates if it's not going on. Give it a blast with disc brake cleaner and make sure the split link is clear as well. Swarf bits can bugger up the clip part of the link and make them go wrong.

Nope, it does sound like something is wrong somewhere along the line.

I've used 10 and 9 speed SRAM links on 10 speed SRAM and Shimano chains all worked fine.

Fitted a KMC Missing Link to my wife's Shimano chain (10spd) at the weekend after her hanger snapped. Reusable too although getting them off without the special pliers is a bugger

Thanks all. Good luck SiB! I'll try it on an Shimano HG74 (10 speed SLX) chain this weekend. Will report back if there's any difficulty.
