So I happen to be spending the weekend here (don't ask).
Plan on taking a bike but not sure whether the cross or mtb (full suss) would be better?
I see Sherwood Pines is close by but it's unrealistic that i'll get 1/2 a day to ride and am only likely to get an hour or 2 max.
I'm leaning towards the cx bike.
Thoughts? Any good routes I should look out for?

Take the CX bike, ride to Pines and ride back again. Pines red is a good blast if you attack it on a cross bike.

you could ride down to Newstead Village and do a loop in the woods there, then across Newstead Abbey to Ravenshead and then Blidworth woods
im just down the road in Hucknall but got injured neck meaning I cant turn my head much which makes biking awkward at the moment.

But secure your bike when unattended....

And never ever stop peddling in Newstead village, even if there is a train coming.

Plenty of riding around Annesley and Felley Woods
All very CX'able though

Not sure how they work that out - I've been to a lot worse places than Kirkby!

FWIW - I love the riding out that way. There's a pleasure to be had riding fast flowing trails through woodland. Sometimes you don't need huge descents.

You got a stack of riding around Thieves Wood, Newstead, Sherwood Pines, Rainworth, Blidworth, Ancient Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park, Welbeck Area, Manton Wood, Walesby - all connected by long bridleways or ancient tracks.

Loads of riding out Pleasley, Tibshelf, Teversal, Five Pits for a big day out - Sutton Res if lazy. Or Pick up the Maun valley trail and do a big loop around Mansfield and back.

Lots of the old pit tips are now good climbs and circulars - check out Silverhill, and then on to the five-pits trail out to Chesterfield. Join this to the Trans-Peninne-Trail and over to Rother-Valley.

We are well stacked for riding here and that's not even bothering with Sherwood Pines really.

23 years of riding and only one attempted theft, admittedly whilst we were sat watching out bikes and drinking coffee! But beyond that given the number of bikers around here there aren't that many thefts or much trouble.

Tibshelf

If you can make it that far it's only another 5 or 6 miles to Ashover/Crich and then you're really into some great riding.

Sounds more promising than I thought.
I'm helping them move this weekend so won't have a huge amount of time to ride but it seems that future visits won't be too miserable....
