looking at a long travel (160mm) 29er, but a little worried about manoeuvrability.  Anyone any experience of riding this kind of bike round Kirkhill near Aberdeen- trails that I am familiar with..  thx for any advice.

Paging that ChrisL, who I'm pretty sure has ridden his ludicous XL Mega 29 up there.

I haven't, but it'll be absolutely fine. It's not til you get into properly mental massive things that it really makes a difference.

there are locals riding starling murmurs around here , to great effect.

I doubt your going to have issues with maneuverability . - the biggest issue at kirkhill will be the lack of elevation to get it up to speed.

It'll be absolutely fine. It might take you a wee bit of time to get used to the steering on a slacker, long-travel 29-er, but there's really nothing at Kirkhill that'll be a problem. (Well, wide handlebars in a few trails maybe).

It'll be begging to get taken out on some of the bigger trails nearby as well 🙂
