Not long to go now, anyone else up for doing it ? Can you stay in the hostel carpark as I heading up in the van.

If you park in the hostel carpark can you use the facilities ?

I've got a hotel booked but doesn't look like I'm going to make it because of injury, I've done all the previous ones. Bloody brilliant event, completely daft, never has just barely surviving been so fun

I've done the last two and will be heading up again. I'm staying in the camper at Invercoe at Glencoe village, which has the added benefits of riding the trails at Glencoe Lochan on the Friday. Great way to finish the race season, and scare yourself silly!

Entry numbers look disappointingly low. A shame because its a brilliant race. Huge challenge but still great fun

Just checked with Blackwater hostel there and there are not allowing camper vans there this year ! shame as it was really close.

Is there any other place close by to stay in the camper van ?

Absolutely it'll be a great way to finish the year as starting the year at MacAvalanche was mental !

I think having it two weeks after Ft Bill is the main issue. If you'd put them opposite ends of the season then people would travel twice, but two weeks apart and its too much. There's sparse population so everyone has to travel and unless you're in Glasgow then its a trip for pretty much everyone.

If I were to find myself in Kinlochleven this week and wanted to sample the type of trails that'll be used which ones should I try!? Not sure if I can make the race yet but would be good to know exactly how far out of my depth I might be if I were to enter...

The one that the race calls the Grey Mare's Trail is peak mountainbiking, for me. Especially in the rain (or snow). Starts out fast and flowy, becomes a river delta with all manner of not-very-ridable options that you have to pick your way through, then gets really wet, then tight and ugly, then goes into this incredible flume thing and then finally down to some nadgery corners and you're out. Goes on forever, when you're riding it, even if you don't stop to try stuff again- which you absolutely will even if you're a riding god, because you'll want to try the other options. And all surfaced with loose babyhead rocks that move around as you ride. It is I think still the hardest thing I've ever raced, and I love it to bits. And easy to find too, just go up the mamore lodge road til your legs fall off and then turn right on the singletrack and climb up a bit more and there you are.

On the same climb is another descent but they've not raced that for the last couple of years, apparently it got a bit destroyed one winter.
