I was just wondering if anyone had an XC3 and what they thought of it?

Been looking at the Kinesis site most days and been doing some man maths. This usually is a pre-cursor to pulling the trigger on shiny stuff.

Perhaps a bit of background is needed:
Currently 2 bikes, ghost AMR and Dialled PA. This would be a frame swap for the PA. Now I love my PA, it gets used for commuting, local laps of the woods and sometimes I take it out on the weekend as a choice over the Ghost. Ghost is good spec, carbon bits, hope hoops etc. The PA is old pikes, average rims, X7 drivetrain, you get the picture.

So why replace the bike I love to ride? Good question. It's too small, 15inch frame and I'm 5/9. Get a medium you say? Yeah fair point. But I've always always wanted a soul and if I was going for a steel 'upgrade' then I think a soul would be the one to go for.

But then there's this thing niggling away. I wonder if a light alu or even carbon bike might be you know, that bit quicker. Yes yes, its 99% rider and fitness, but how about lopping off a fair chunk of weight to help the process. Maybe buy some light superstar (I know) wheels at the same time.

So I end up with a lighter HT that I could also do a bit of racing on. And be crap. But at least have something suitable.

But I don't want to lose the fun factor or ride something so harsh it makes for a bit of a grim hang on and soak it up type affair.

This is a ramble, yes?

So really what I'm saying is I want a fun hardtail and have 26er bits to swap over.
I'm a bit tight.
I might spend some money.
Current bike a bit small.

2nd hand medium soul?
2nd hand / new medium Dialled PA ?
new kinesis XC?

?

Hi Moonboy. Which version is your PA (Reynolds 520, 853, 725, PA Classic 853)?

The current PA Classic 853 would appear to tick most of your boxes if you genuinely still like your current PA.

Hey Mike!

It's a 520, I think in official speak its a Mk2 (without the extra brace). Is that right? It was battleship grey originally.

I guess I'm just a bit hung up on weight all of a sudden. The ride 'quality' itself is not in question. I duno, don't fix what's not broke n all that...

@Chrisylad yeah was looking at those too.

This may be relevant as I doubt the geometry of the xc3 is too different but I have an xc2.

I found it quite short which made it harsh and I did feel like the back end kicked around abit, but it was very fast and climbed like a rocket, which considering I bought it to race on it was ideal.

I'm actually selling it to fund a cyclocross bike, but if I wanted a racey mtb again I'd probably go with kinesis again.
