For those of you doing the 100km Kielder race in September, what bike are you going to ride it on?

I have a 26" Remedy and a Evil Sovereign. Which one is most suitable for the event?

The other option is to get an xcish frame and swap bits over.

Any suggestions? I have no real idea what expect apart from a really tough day out!!

If course is similar to the Keilder 100 then think more to the xc end of the spectrum. I don't know anything about the two bikes you've mentioned.

Remedy is 150mm travel both ends the Sovereign is 150mm travel steel HT but much more trail than XC. Neither are light...

Titus Fireline - Ti 29er HT.

Suspect a XC based FS would be more comfortable, but not planning to change for the event.

I was thinking a 26" Scandal with 100-120 forks or similar. Nothing too expensive or exotic. Or maybe just use my trek.

Pondering doing this...

If i do enter it will be on either a Surly Karate Monkey with a 29+ front wheel and tyre and 2x10 drivetrain or a Surly Krampus with a 1x10 drivetrain.

Depends how fit I'm feeling I reckon.

I'll be there on a Yeti Big Top.

Of the two you mention OP - I would go with the Sov. Bit heavy and not ideal for the climbing but it should be fine over 60 miles. Might reduce travel on front if that were an option (120-130).

Yeah that was the way I was going but I still haven't really gelled with the Sov yet. It replaced a Blue Pig and part of me is thinking sell it and get another blue pig frame as I loved that frame!

I fortunately have til September to make my mind up! However I do want to get some riding done on the final choice of bike before the event!

If I go then my 29er hardtail.

Kielder isn't technically very hard. I ride up theer a fair amount on the CX bike. Most of it is fine but a little tough on the body as it is rough.

Short travel 29er is probably the way forward. You want something as fast as possible but you need to remain comfortable for a long time.

When I did the full 100miles I did it both times on a Stumpjumper FSR. Too much bike but the only one I had suitable. I just put some light XC tyres on.

OP - take the hardtail. Entries are a bit cheaper until the end of March. Route has a (downhill) sting in the tail I'm told..
