I bought my lad a new, second hand bike and it comes with tektro cable discs which, at first blush, feel stiff to pull.
The clarks M2 look to be outstanding value and £30ish for everything and come with long levers so maybe easier to grab. They also have adjustable reach which is a good thing as he said the levers need to be nearer.

How do these compare with the basic shimano ones. I'm thinking the shimano may be "better" but a bit basic?

I have a set of bb7 in my spares box and wondered if getting a better lever, a proper Deore v brake lever with adjustable reach, might be a worthwhile upgrade. Levers are about a tenner.

Those cheap shimano ones work fine.
There's some on CR where the only complaint is short hoses. Ideal for kids bike, can't remember if they are reach adjustable.

Yep, those M355 on CRC for £34 look pretty amazing value and the short hoses might be spot on!
Does anyone know if they have reach adjustment on them?

shimano trail levers are longer and work better with small hands.
