Does anyone have any firsthand experience of a Kids Ride Shotgun child seat?
We're currently using a WeeRide, but she's starting to get a bit cramped in the foot rest?
Is it worth the £150?
Cheers, Chris
Awesome, awesome, AWESOME!
Really good bit of kit, my boy loved it. Was a shame to sell it...
Bought one 3 weeks ago from their Amazon shop. Very quick delivery and excellent quality.
The youngest (just under 2 years old) loves it compared to the Burley trailer as she can now properly interact with us. She spent the last ride giving instructions as to which way to go and laughing her head off the rest of the time.
I'd recommend also getting the mini bolt on handlebars to go with the seat if your kid is quite young.
A word of warning, it can get very exciting if they decide to yank on the bars when you are riding one handed!
Defo get the bars
My wee boy is still in a Thule / yepp mini. It seems a bit better than the Weeride. A bit more space to move his feet. It does restrict the steering a bit. If it wasn't for the stirrups hitting the crown I reckon I'd get more use out of it. It does make him a bit of a passenger though.
Good to hear the shotgun is good, that's his progression planned
Really really good..... I want to sell mine (sort of). It’s great bit of kit but I’m finding myself swapping it between bikes more than expected, and it’s not great for this unless the tubes on the bikes are the same diameters. Turns out that I should’ve got a Mac-Ride and just dealt with having to switch out a stem spacer.
mashr, What are you thinking of selling it for?
Agree with the above, my 3 Yr old loves riding on daddy's bike much more than the trailer we have. Only issue is when he feels tired on longer jaunts..
@mashr you do realise that the macride cones with an extra headset spacer in the box as standard- if not available as spares... 😜
Yeah, just didn’t want anything on the steering at all, and thought the Shotgun looked better in other ways too (like no nasty looking saddle) and was cheaper.
Will need to have a think about ££, as getting a second hand Mac-Ride seems pretty unlikely to happen any time soon
The Mac Ride is excellent. My two year old loves it. The saddle shape on it serves a function, it stops them moving forwards and backwards. It's also made of a soft but grippy rubbery plastic. This means they stay firmly planted and don't slide about. He doesn't really need to hang on to the handlebars that much as it holds him in place so well.
I didn't actually know about the Shotgun. Regardless of which one you get it's great having them up front
Mac Ride ordered, watch this space for a Shotgun going up for sale (won’t be until after the Mac Ride arrives). FYI, I accept bribes 😉
Hi can a Shotgun owner please check something for me?
I was wondering if there is any possibility I could fit it to a bike with cables along the top of the top tube. According to the instructions it's a "computer says no". I have 17 mm between the cables along the top tube though, and wondered if there was any possibility it would fit between them? Or there's a bodge anyone can think of?
@mashr - sent you a PM in case yours is still available.
Our wee one is currently in a WeeRide front seat, but looking to upgrade soon. I think I'll get a Mac Ride.
I don't like the design of the Shotgun as it fails to take into account the way bike frames are designed. Clamping onto and putting all the force through close to the mid-point of the top tube seems like a recipe for destroying your frame. Max weight limit of 22kg could put a lot of force through the frame when hitting a bump!
mac ride out of stock now :/
I was thinking of getting one, but just couldn't get on with a weeride due to the "legs out" riding position - is the mac ride the same? or does it sit further forward?
*remembers there’s a message thing* oh yeah so you did! Will reply shortly
It won’t work at all well with top of top tube cable routing though, it’d be sitting right on the cables. However, 17mm gap...... nope still won’t work. Just measured the rubber pad and it’s 30mm wide
Mac and Shotgun are definitely better for riding position than a WeeRide. The seat is in a similar position but it’s just far less bulky so nowhere near as in the way. Not perfect but vastly better
I had a weeride, lasted one ride. No way can you pedal with that thing in the way!
Used a rear mounted carrier for baby. These are awful when the child gets a bit heavier, unbalance the bike.
Better may be the front handlebar mounted one - thule yepp mini?
However I went for the mac ride after winter. Best thing I ever bought for a bike, seriously 2.75 year old LOVES it, especially down the local woods and pump track.
You still pedal knees out a little so you can't really do proper riding, but then your child will be bored by then anyway.
However - my macride has wear where the telescoping tubes overlap - anyone else had this?
OK, thanks for the info mashr
Back to plan A which is to get some longer steerer forks on the cable top tube bike and fit my LOCT to that and then maybe put a Shotgun on the bike that currently has the LOCT.
Which, in other words, means I am still interested in the Shotgun mashr!
The LOCT (Little One Comes Too) was what we graduated to after the WeeRide. It’s an older thing very like a Mac Ride. Is miles better than the WeeRide in terms of riding without your knees out.
I've used a trailor when mini D was little. Then moved to a chair above the rear tyre.
A couple of friends have kids a year older than me and when they bought a mac ride at £200 I thought they were mad. You can buy a bike for that.
I found that when mini d was behind me I couldn't really hear him and I was always turning round.. Then when I wasn't using the chair I had a massive box that clipped my knees and weighed a couple of kilos.
I looked at the shotgun as it's around £120 but the feet don't adjust and as mini d is 2 but in 3-4 year clothes I need something that grows with him. The mac ride legs extend.
I borrowed my friends mac ride and we went for a ride. Having mini d just in front of me we could talk to each other. He was giving me directions and looking at animals and shouting weeeee. When we got home he said "I love it, I really love it" you don't get bigger praise than that.
I went to order a mac ride today but they are out of stock. I emailed support and they came straight back to me. Stock arriving in June. Fantastic customer service. So like my friends I've just spent £197.95 on a kids seat with 2 foot holds and I reckon it's going to be worth every penny!
Watching ebay prices they seem to sell for £150 second hand so you might get some money back when they grow too big.
I'll let you know when it arrives.

This!
It's amazing. The balance of the bike it not affected as much as you might think. Only problem is occasionally getting head butted in the chin now and them. I put a couple more spacers under the stem. Oh and a dropper post is useful for mounting / dismounting.
We have done some pretty steep and rocky stuff, not been bounced off - just have to remember to talk it through with them as they won't necessarily interpret this drop means you need to hold on etc.
My boy likes to take his turn to steer (!)
When he is laughing his head off shouting "again again" for one more lap of the pump track, all is well with the world.

I wouldn’t be too worried about that, I see the foot positioning as more to ensure you clear the front tyre at full compression. We’re already using the second bottom position with the (not tall) 2 y/o on the Mac Ride, he’s not pedalling so I’m not worried about not being able to drop much further
@mashr - still waiting patiently(ish) for your reply re. the shotgun 🙂
Moved my LOCT to the wife's bike this weekend so now definitely after a Shotgun for my bike.
Did anyone else notice the second hand Mac Ride go for £224 on eBay a couple of days ago - ouch!

Plus £10 postage! Crazy.
Saw one of these out and about on an ebike with a very happy nipper in the front seat today. Looked ace!
I got ready for a road ride this morning. Mini D saw me with my riding kit and helmet on and shouted "yes, I'm going out on daddy's bike" when I went out on my own apparently he cried for a good ten minutes.
The mac ride I borrowed has gone back now. I've ordered one but not due until mid June. I can see some more tears this week!
At least I know I've not wasted £200!

You aren’t first in the queue 😉
PSA of sorts. Someone on the Stanton Owners Group on Facebook is flogging an unused Mac Ride for £150 + postage.
We bought a Mac Ride a few weeks ago, and it was delivered pretty quickly. Fitted it to my bike in about 10 minutes, and we headed out on a ride with my daughter (21 months, but tall for her age) and she loved it. Up until now we've used a rear mounted child seat, and she enjoys being out and about, but hearing what she's saying is not as easy, and it's obviously harder to see what she's pointing at.
It also fitted surprisingly well to my wife's small hardtail frame, and she got on fine with it.
Have now done 3 rides with the Mac Ride, with maximum duration so far of about 1 hour. My daughter has already started standing up and pointing at stuff as we're riding, and it's great to see her so happy with being out and about. We did a ride round some local woods with my daughter on board at the weekend, and then I removed the seat (took less than 1 minute) and I headed off on my own to cycle home. Really looking forward to exploring a bit more once lockdown allows. Seems an expensive purchase, but in reality we'll get a lot of use out of it, and should be able to sell it on once we've done with it, without too much of a hit.
Probably needs to be filed under "too good to be true", but if you feel like a punt, someone is advertising new Shotguns for £35 + £5.30 postage on eBay;

Showing as £49 now on mine.
I suspect its someone cashing in on everyone using a bike, I doubt it's legit but you are covered by ebay and PayPal.
I've ordered a macride. I got an email the other day to say the stock has arrived in a container and they are waiting for it to be cleared through customs.
We started with the WeeRide until the first born was just over two then I got a Mac-Ride, its brilliant. The WeeRide is back out if the loft for child two until he's at the point he can ride on the Mac-Ride.
This was us on Sunday-
😁😁😁
Seen a chap and his kid doing laps of Cannings (I must've seen them do at least 5) on an ebike with one of these setups.
Looked almost enough fun to make me consider having kids. Not sure it looked fun enough to make me consider an ebike though - that's a step too far!

Hmmm, Hmmmm, Hmmmmmmm.
Got a 2 year old and a 4 month old. We're a few hundred quid deep in Burley trailer, which has been awesome and will continue to be. I can take the 2 year old on long rides, snacks and supplies, and balance bike. He can get out and ride, he can sleep. Disadvantages are the weight for me, and for him, that I need to keep the raincover down all the time unless I'm on a clean road, otherwise he gets dirt in his face.
Mac ride looks brilliant, I can totally imagine how great it is from nippers' point of view. But that's another £300-£400 for both kiddies, and I guess there's a lower limit for the length of ride you can do? It seems they both have their place, but it's a fair old chunk of change to have both.
Other case of n+1, I guess!
We have a shotgun (macride wouldn't fit wife's bike and having seen both together with kids on think the shotgun was better overall). Easy to fit and probably the best value piece of bike kit I've bought recently. Daughter is just over 2.5, been using it since she was 22 months and she loves it. Always wants to ride "daddy's bike" and we have had some quality time together from riding around the block to 2 hour adventures in the woods, we can chat, she giggles, learns how to steer. Just awesome.
@nedrapier - I suspectthat by the time #22 is ready for it #1 will be too big so you only need 1!

Surprise, surprise, the seller today cancelled my £35 buy it now order ("due to item being out of stock") and has them rlisted them at £90!
Shotgun themselves have been warning about cheap deals being found on various sites - the message was simply to avoid as they’re scams.

That’s interesting, I went the other way and was really impressed at the quality of the MacRide (especially the clamps) compared to the Shotgun. Made it seem very agricultural

There's only a 22 month gap between them, and the suggested age range seems to be bigger than that, but I think you're probably right.
Just got my tracking number from mac ride. My seat is on its way. Looks like the shipment has arrived and been released by customs.
Just seen one on ebay binp £160 plus post! Crazy.
Mini D can't understand why he can't ride my bike now I've given the borrowed one back.
I better fit the new inboard grips that have just turned up
Oooh that's exciting! I pressed buy this afternoon, got an email suggesting they might be sent out earlier than the 4 weeks I'd prepared myself for.
😀
Mine's arriving Monday.
Funny, I was happy enough to wait a month, now I'm upset because I got the tracking number last night and I thought it might be here for the weekend! 😀
@nedrapier my delivery due Monday is coming today. I think the only positive from covid 19 is deliveries are fantastic service at the moment.
3.5yo son loves riding in the Mac ride seat. Theres a park near us relatively flat but with tight twisty pumpy non-gnar singlestick. We both enjoy riding it. Its interesting how the bike handling changes and doesn't; throwing the extra weight around and trying to keep things smooth but fun!
Longest ride we've done a mix of lanes coastal paths and farm track xc was about 15 miles, was a bit to far for him. 9-10 miles with a couple of stops for them to stretch legs run let off steam and snack works well.
