Took my eldest to his first cross race today and he did great considering he was on his 26 full sus bike.
He's keen to do more races and we have 5 more fairly local races before Christmas
Not that i want to run out and buy a cross bike for him (as the garage is already full and the bike fund is almost empty), but it does leave me wondering at what point a drop bar CX bike makes sense for a kid? Seems to add in an awkward element to riding from what I could see.
Wouldn't you get close to the same weight with an alloy mtb hardtail and rigid forks, 1x and flat bars? More useful too surely, throw on a sus fork, bigger tyres and good for xc racing.
