my boy (9) is just starting to get xc mountainbiking, but after todays sodden/muddy ride its obvious he's going to need some better clothes/ shoes (rain jacket, t-shirt, jeans and vans at present).

just wondered what everyone elses kids are wearing, any recommendations?

shoes especially?

Normal trainers on feet, but "proper" cycling clothes, decathlon do some decent, good value kids clothing.

Salomon trainers all round here - they get wet, wet, wet and dry out quick.
All of them have *good* waterproofs, fleeces, baselayer and cycleshorts.
All have shorts/ 3/4's or tracksuit bottoms, trying to get some proper cycle tights. Todays ride was very chilly for them - 3* up here today.
They all have buffs and swap between cycle gloves and proper winter gloves for downhills/really cold days.
Classifieds here is a great source of kids outdoor clothing... 8)

great, thanks. approach type shoes was what i was thinking.

sadly decathlon has not made it to cornwall.

with tights is it best to go padded?

got a good helmet, in-fact about to spec a new one for him, definitely agree with you on that reedspeed.

Go unpadded, with undershorts - they are so cheap for a pair of kids lycra shorts - much more adaptable.

Overshoes, gathered & sewn at the back to make tighter if needed. Waterproof jacket over fleece(s).
Just bought my 7yr old a Gyro Hex, it fits him a treat. Some of the kids helmets were utter crap.

He usually wears just a t-shirt and some baggy fashion shorts but he does have some of the old addidas cycling shoes that were very good.
What, well he is 31.
