My son is 5ys 3 months he currently has a Frog 48 bike, rides most weekends when we’re out with the dog.
I think he’s starting to look a little big for it. Website says this is for 4-5 years but others say up to 7/8 years. It’s 16” wheels and 9.6” frame, suitable min leg size 48cm.
He is 120cm height, 50cm inside leg, looking at Islabikes he would be ok for the Beinn 20 large which is equivalent too the Frog 55 (20” wheels, 11” frame) min 52-55cm
Not sure if this is going to be too much of a jump up in size etc just now, I was going to look at this when he turns 6 in September, he got the Frog 48 bike when he was 4 but I think waiting until his birthday may be a little too long so thought Xmas bike might be better?

only way to be certain is to try them for size really. As a comparison though, my son is just 6 and is moving onto his sister's ex Frog 52 from a Cnoc 14 and the main issue with the Frogs at least is the frame length. I fitted some old swept back risers to bring the bars closer and the position is ok but it's a little awkward right now - a few months down the line it will be OK . It also has a much higher BB than the little Isla so he's not as comfortable with the saddle at a decent height.
Unless you are prepared to change bike every year there's going to be a point where there's going to be a compromise at either end of the sizing scale. Little buggers
I am thinking I may just take the jump up in size at Xmas this year, as come September for his bday I think he will definitely be to big for the frog 48.
I am looking also at frog 52 but 55 makes more sense along with the Isla beinn 20.

Yes I can see this being an 18 month change for the next while anyway, but least his little brother will get use out them then a resell helps
My almost 6 yo is about to move to his 8yo sisters frog 52 as well. His sister now wants something with 26" wheels that can do wheelies 😆
