Is it possible to buy a decent kids' bike for under £150? I know there are some terrible prtend bikes at that price, but is there anything which is ok? It's not for off road, but canal paths and some ruts. For a 9/10 year old. How atll would they need to be for a small 26" wheel bike and how small do those go?
Oh! just seen some at Deacthlon, are the cheap ones

worth buying or is it like a Tesco bike at the same price?
Decathlon stuff is good vfm. Visit a shop and try them for size.
Much better than a BSO from Tescda
For sizing, check out Islabikes' sizing chart on their web site - I've found it applicable to other brands for a given inside leg measurement.
When I was looking for my son last Xmas I saw a couple of well-priced Scott and Specialized 24" bikes on ebay, you might get lucky with the price.
I went with the RR5 seems to be good enough, more bike than BSO. Only time will tell
Hi DragonPhoenix,
I have a 24" wheeled Specialized Hotrock for sale on here for £85. Its been really good for my son from 7 to 11, shimano gears, V-brakes, front suspension (of sorts....)
We got it for the same reason, everything from argos/toysRus was way too heavy.
Drop me a pm or note on here if you're interested. (Leeds/Bradford area)
Thanks
Rob.
We also have a 24" for sale, trek mt220 in red and silver. Forks are over stiff but came like that 21 speed and adjustable length cranks. V brakes and side stand.
In Sheffield nickhart69ATgmail.com for pics.
The 2 bikes offered 2nd hand sound OK, but if you can stretch the budget this is a cracker.
I bought a Felt 24" for my lad as he rejected the Carrera based on its colour, but the Carrera was lots lighter than the Felt and has the advantage of disc's.
