I'll be taking the family up later in the year - can anyone recommend kid friendly routes for a 4 and 7 year old? They're happy doing blues (as long as I tow them up the hills) but the eldest hasn't got much confidence on natural terrain when things get rooty/bumpy (can't get him to stand up for anything). The youngest still has the fearlessness of youth and just charges off/over everything.
I know the paths around Loch an Eilein/Rothie would be suitable and probably the Speyside way to Boat of Garten (steam train back to Aviemore?) and I'm thinking possibly the blue at Glenlivet. Has anyone got anything else to add? Hills I don't mind as I'll tow them up.
Thanks.
I got ours to ride up to the top of the Ryvoan pass last year. Couple of steep bits and rough bit at the top. Nice loch to look at near the top. We turned around and picked a random route back to Loch Morlich.
Plan is this year to drop the vehicle in the morning at Nethy Bridge and ride back over the pass then ride to the vehicle with kids back over the pass again.
There's stuff in the woods at Nethy Bridge but we had a massive strop when trying to ride there so didn't get to.
The Speyside Way has been extended to Kincraig (and actually beyond now). There are a few hills but it's all well surfaced. You could make a loop of it by returning through Kinrara estate.
There are a couple of loops at the Uath Lochan (bottom end of Glen Feshie). White route would be fine for your kids.
The road up Glen Feshie from the Uath Lochan would also be fine. 99% tarmac but even getting to the first bridge and back is a nice ride in awesome scenery.
Lots of wee tracks through the woods SE of Carrbridge.
Pine Marten/Red Squirrel cafe, along to the other end of the loch on the logging way, up to Badaguish and take the track straight towards Glenmore/Pine Marten. Gradual climb, great view of Loch Morlich and the mountains and then a fast descent to the pub/cafe.
Last time we went to Aviemore we stayed in carrbridge . Right behind the landmark adventure there is a relatively flat woods with some nice easy trails . My boy was happy riding round on his balance bike and later on the tag-along . Obviously its not stunning views as your in the woods but the paths are spot on for kids .
Inverdruie to Cairngorm Club Footbridge then anticlockwise arounf E and N Loch Morlich. Lunch at a cafe, then Logging way back to Inverdruie.
Plenty around Uath Lochan and the Loch an Eilean circuit is good too.
