You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi all,
I’ve tried the wahoo kickr help to no avail, so I’m wondering if anyone can help me here.
I have a first generation kickr that I’ve had since 2014 and it’s been faultless until a week ago. I did an ftp test on Zwift (admittedly my first in ages) and on the actual ftp part my power kept rising then cutting out, so the graph ended up looking like a line of kids teeth.
I did a reset and a spin down which didn’t seem to work, then I updated the firmware. Then I checked the other troubleshooting issues and cleaned the optical sensor.
Then I jumped on the bike and could hardly turn the cranks. Logging into the app I seem to be getting a speed reading but no power. I’ve tried wahoo, but I thought the singletrackmind might also have some thoughts.
Any help?
Many thanks
Been here.
No power reading is an it's dead issue.
Wahoo swapped mine out.
Thanks. Thought it might be. Any idea how insistent wahoo are on having a receipt. I’ve moved twice since I bought it and It’ll be a miracle if I still have it!
I think they may consider 6 years reasonable for a lifespan
I have a 1st gen KickR too but have yet to have that kind of problem.
What does it feel like if you try pedal in a low gear with no power on the KickR? It should let you pedal but with a bit of resistance.
I'll be impressed if they entertain any sort of warranty after so long but equally cant imagine the sensor would be too much, and might be available as a non Wahoo product if they just use a generic sensor.
So would I. It’s also averaged about 5000km per year, so I’ve not done badly by it.
I had a similar issue and they sent me a new top cap (the electronics bit). Easy enough to swap, fixed the issue. Mine was secondhand (warranty replacement my mate got that he sold to me as he'd also bought a Wattbike) and they were fine about it.
There’s a shop called Bomber Bike Works that do KICKR repairs https://www.bomberbikeworks.co.uk/
Various examples on their Instagram page
^^ Always wondered if any third party places did kickr repairs.👍
Hummm, seems that Wahoo no longer have the parts and have offered me a refurbished 2018 Kickr for £850... looks like I'll be trying bomberbikeworks.
Bookmarked cheers, may be useful if/when my Gen1 packs in!
Seems as good a place as any to ask, does anyone know if the optical discs can be easily replaced? No issues with mine yet but there is some light scoring on it, got a feeling that may be the first thing to change if I ever get issues...
