Going to order a smart trainer, seems like the kickr core is the obvious option. Any reasons not to go for one from real world experience? Will be for TR / zwift, more likely TR as I like the structure.

I’ve got one that I use with TR - just using an iPhone and Garmin Bluetooth HR strap. Works perfectly so far (bought it in March), is really quiet, integrates nicely and changes in resistance in ERG mode seems instant. Can’t fault it so far.

Ditto. No experience of other direct drive trainers, however I recently upgraded from a Tacx Flux to a (factory refurb) Kickr Core and its superb - quiet, smooth, feels great. Well chuffed.

(FYI, my refurb kickr core came in original packaging, with the internal bags having been opened etc, but otherwise like new. Looks like someones bought it and then just changed their mind and returned it. Would not hesitate to buy refurb over 'new' again. Decent saving and still warranteed).

Oh god I hope so, I just ordered one from the LBS.  Looked at a million reviews, got tempted by the Tacx Neo 2 for a couple of hundred more on CRC/Wiggle and went around in circles as usual.  Finally decided it does all I need and the multiple BT connections could be handy in the future

more likely TR as I like the structure

I think Wahoo trainers come with a decent trial of Sufferfest, I’m interested to give that a try with all it’s yoga and strength training extras

Solid reliable trainer (for me) had mine 2+ years without any issues at all

Yeah it's that time of year. I'm thinking about buying one.

What else will I need? Just a cassette?

I’ve been looking too. They never appear to be discounted unfortunately

£700 + £50ish cassette or £999 for the Kickr.

Not that much in it really when you are already splashing out a fair bit of cash !

Does the Core fold away, that’s the big disadvantage ?

I've also got a refurb, first one they sent was duff (hinge so out of line it wouldn't sit flat on the floor) but the second was spot on. Customer services were good too.

Core just hinges in the middle so bulkier than the regular one, and no handle to pick it up either.

Mine arrived yesterday, I'm using it with my old road bike so just took the old 9-speed cassette off there and put it on. You'll obvously need the tools for this, which fortunately I already did.

It's quite an unwieldy lump to move around, while I put it together with no major issues on my own it would have been a lot easier with a bit of help. Likewise wrestling the bike into place would be easier with someone else, although that may just be a lack of practice. Fortunately in my case once set up, it'll stay set up.

On a more cheerful note I gave it a first run yesterday, and it's certainly a lot nicer and a lot quieter than the wheel-on trainer I was using previously. And that weighty unwieldiness does translate to a feeling of quality, it's not cheaply put together crap.

If you have the Wiggle discount, the turbo on it's own doesn't show any discount. The bundles, however, do! For me (currently at 12%) this means that the Core turbo+cassette bundle is cheaper than the turbo on its own!

Another vote for the Core, despite mine getting noisy since pulling it out of storage!

And that weighty unwieldiness does translate to a feeling of quality, it’s not cheaply put together crap.

Having pulled mine apart to change a rumbling bearing I can safely say it's very well designed internally. Everything is decent quality and designed to last and more importantly be serviceable. A belt change and bearing replacement is easy and uses common parts so I'm happy I can keep mine going for a long time in the future.

Ordered a refurb direct from Wahoo mid July. Order placed but turns out they'd ran out. A few weeks of friendly emailing (they're v quick to respond) and I'd been sent first a free Tickr for my inconvenience, and then in mid August a new one as no refurbs on the horizon, same price.

Just thought I'd share. Glitches happen but they're not always so well dealt with so nice one Wahoo.

Agree seems a quality item and reassuringly heavy. Stuck an old RB casette on which seems to work okay. It's in the shed with a new telly and chromecast for zwift on my phone, and a big fan. Now it's started raining I may be ready to take the next daunting step and actually use the thing...

Mine arrived today - somewhat scary sticker on it warning the product is going to give me cancer and birth defects due to the nickel and pthalates, but from what I can see its a way to cover themselves from californian lawyers. Will try and put it together tonight
