The other half has the option of a Kia Ceed as a company car, she likes the way it looks etc. but can't get a test drive. Her main worry is getting a bike in the back, with the front wheel off. So those that own one, how roomy is the boot with rear seats down.
Can be done...just requires a bit of care. Have done it twice, bike was a small medium 27.5 full suspension bike. However, I can't remember if I removed both wheels or not.
I have one currently as a hire car while mines in the garage. 8 weeks and counting...
Bike in the back is a both wheels off job. I shove it in diagonally and backwards. There's a little cubby hole around the rear wheel arch where one of the grips goes. This means the bars can sit vertical. The handlebar is pretty much up against the boot lid and the rear mech is a couple of inches away from the passenger seat. Passenger seat in its normal position.
It might go in with the rear wheel on with the passenger slid right forwards but it would be pretty tight.
It's not a fun way of transporting a bike to be honest. Particularly when it's filthy and you're conscious of the fact its a hire car.
For reference, bike in question is a medium Orbea Rise.
I guess if you have a bike bag and sensible ways to cover the wheels etc it might not be too bad. Part of my difficulty is not destroying the stubby front mud guard on my Mezzer. If I was less worried about that, it would probably go in easier.
Thanks both. She currently manages in a current shape Megane, so she's hopeful it'll go. She's actually gone down to Kia with a tape measure this morning, I told her to take her bike but she wasn't having it!
Hatchback or estate?
I can get a specialized levo in mine with the front wheel off. To protect the back of the Ceed I use a Rhino cover.
Had one for 3 years. Just got to be careful putting the bike in and out. With the seat down there is a fair amount of space in the back. Even fitted two EVOC bike bags and 2 wheel trolleys in the back before.
@MoreCashThanDash hatchback, don't think there's an estate on the list. Plus it's only if I won't be joining her, I have a Peugeot Partner Tepee which we nearly always use.
@drinkingwally @Kuco thanks, just the sort of info we're after.
