[rant]
Is anyone else getting keyword adverts and autoplaying video adverts on the forum?
It's getting ridiculous now and really starting to put me off coming here.

I know, a rather limp wristed rant and could really do with more mispellings and random caps, but surely I can't be the only one it ****es off?

I understand the need for adverts (to pay for hosting services etc) but there really is no need for it to be so bloody annoying.

keyword ads* means you've got some adware/malware installed and ain't owt to do with STW.

Run a malwarebytes scan.

* assuming you mean the ones which popup ads when you move over forum text

Dont mind videos (tho my broadband is so slow they tend to make sites far too slow to load) but disappointed by the current trend towards auto-playing with music/sound. Thats a bit to intrusive tbh. A lot of sites tend to be moving that direction (or not acting against it) so id be going elsewhere eventually since id be using laptop to play music so cant just leave it muted.

Yup the ones which popup ads when you move over the text...
I guess it could be malware? But I didn't think any existed for chromeOS?
And would it explain the auto playing videos *with* sound?

I understand the need for ads, but don't the people who place the ads think what people may think when their ad starts auto playing load music?
It just might put someone ever ever buying their stuff.

Sounds like you've got a malware chrome extension installed.

Visit chrome://extensions/ (copy / paste link into chrome url bar ) and check the list of installed extension for anything you're not expecting.

Bear in mind the advertising revenue doesn't just pay for hosting it most likely represents a very high percentage of Singletracks income. No ads = no Singletrack would be my guess!

Still auto play stuff is annoying!

Now can you fix the autoplaying videos?

Chrome settings -> advanced -> Privacy (content settings)
Under Plug-ins click on Manage Exceptions and enter the following two lines (selecting "Ask" against each one)
[*.]singletrackworld.co.uk
[*.]singletrackworld.com

^ 😉

I was finding the auto play video adverts was getting annoying. Normally it would turn me off using a site, but then I thought paying for membership to remove the ads with a few other benefits I don't mind doing for this place and went further to get the magazine subscription. I do prefer Singletrack to a lot of the others, just really because it has interesting articles rather than just being a bunch of adverts and reviews. And pretty pictures 😀
