I’m heading here later in the summer and wondered if any good routes around 90mins to get in each night or morning with my 13 year old.
We just stayed near Dalby forest and he enjoyed a daily shred on some off piste stuff I knew of and has asked if we can do similar in Keswick this summer.
Will probs do an afternoon at whinlatter. Last time was in Keswick I did a ride out and round threlkeld into the hills and back into Keswick but that was along the railway path which I think years later is still flood damaged?
The railway path reopened last year actually. I think the ride your referring to, which involves the railway path either going out to Threlkeld or coming back is on this page. Takes about 90 mins.

There’s also the Borrowdale Bash ride from Keswick but that’s more like half a day’s ride I think.
Push up Skiddaw for the descent down Ullock Pike is easily done. Ullock Pike for is the best bit of trail I've ridden. Even if the descent down the screen slope to get to it is a bit but clenching.
Lanefoot Farm campsite is an easy ride into Keswick, small but not too small, pitches for caravans/ campers and they allow fires.
Good cheeky short ride from the campsite: Through town to springs road, go to the end (springs farm) and climb the track leading up past the phone tower to rakefoot farm, then push/ride up to the high point behind walla crag (great view point just over the stile on the wall). That's all the height gain done, now enjoy the ride along a good track to ashness bridge, descend the road from there and cruise back along borrowdale road/lakeshore to the campsite- can cut through along past strandshag bay/friars crag and through crow park to the campsite. Best as an evening ride as none of it is bridleway.
Railway line to threlkeld is open, cruise along there then climb up the road to the blencathra field centre, head north towards skiddaw house and return to latrigg along lonscales terraces, finishing with a great descent down spooney green into keswick (beware busy path, don't mow anyone down!).
Mooch over to fitz park and have an hour or so on the pump track.
STW in action. Guy wants to take his kid for a 90 minute fun ride, and gets told to hike a bike one of the highest mountains in England. 😂😂😂
What TomB said.
Yes, love it - climbing Skiddaw in 90 mins (and back down) with a 13 year old. Including Ullock too...
I'd second Walla if you dont mind encouraging cheekiness and your sons is descent on his bike.
Lots of short options. Break the Borrowdale Bash into sections. Bridleway under catbells. Ride up to watendlath on the road back into borrowdale on the bridge way. Bridlway in the valley above Grange etc. Also bridleways upto Skidaw house
I don't think your son will talk to you again if you try to get him up Skiddaw.
The Lonscale Fell loop is good fun and is fairly short. Not good if you dislike heights though:

Lanefoot could do a bit round the stones and out to the old railway line. Coffee at threkald.
I'd not be recommending skiddaw as a family ride. Nor would I recommend it mid summer..
Another cheeky option... head over towards Little Braithwaite, do the first section of the Stoneycroft climb, then turn sharp right to climb to the top of Barrow, then ride the northern ridge back down.

@ Hardupdad, there is a pump track in Fitz Park. Couple of hours there and an Ice Cream afterwards.
Fit cow catchers to your bikes if you ride the railway path, you'll need them for the walkers.
Get dropped off at the Ullswater end of the Old Coach Road near Dockray and ride it back to town via the stone circle.
Thanks all, defo will visit the pump track and the 13 year old seems to think he’ll be there a lot. Some good ideas there so thanks for taking the time
