MAte was just quizzing me about his KEnevo, i'd say it's as 2020 roughly, Navy Blue one...
Anyway, the battery just seems 'dead'... He plugged it in and.. Nothing.
Removed it from the bike and connected it via the other connector... Nothing.
Was working perfectly a few weeks ago...
Apart from the obvious "battery is dead"... Any other thoughts ?
He's not too far from Bristol where the Concept Store is, so he can/would end up there if you guys don''t have anything inspirational.
Warranty. If not warranty (IME) Specialized will sell you another for 50% off, as long as they can keep the dead battery.
My 2021 Levo sometimes doesn't turn on. I think it's a dodgy connection with the battery charging cover. When I open the cover, give the inside a quick clean out then snap the cover closed again, it powers up fine.
C.
Check nothing has gotten stuck on the charging port or the charger's connector as they are magnetic and any tiny bit of swarf can cause issues
THanks guys.. keep any ideas coming, i've thrown him a link to thread.
The power to the charger was definitely on?
Can he check it via a multimeter (is the battery working), is the battery fully engaging into the connector (has the battery mounting clamps slipped), is the connectors contaminated/corroded/etc (give them a clean), has the charger been damaged and not charging (check with multimeter again), is the controller working properly (try other battery or fit with charger on bike and turn on?)
So many things could be wrong, concept store in Bristol is a good start, hopefully won't get fobbed off and give it a once over to see if the battery, controller or connectors are the issue.
can you force a "reboot" of the battery on these by holding the power button on the battery down for a few seconds, like you can on bosch batteries?
s the battery fully engaging into the connector (has the battery mounting clamps slipped), is the connectors contaminated/corroded/etc (give them a clean), has the charger been damaged and not charging (check with multimeter again), is the controller working properly (try other battery or fit with charger on bike and turn on?)
WEll up to now he's only tried it out of the bike and in the bike... I assume like my Liv you get 2 connectors on the charger, 1 for on-bike, 1 for out-bike...
Of course that doesn't mean the charger itself is working....
Assuming a FF Kenovo (internal battery ala 2019 Levo), charger should light up green (full/not plugged in) or red (charging) when plugged in, the battery status lights on the battery should flash as they charge. If you poke the (spring loaded) pins on the battery with your finger (you won't die or get any sort of shock) it should light up the charging status lights. As above, it's very easy to get crap on the magnetic connection cables, check both/all cables
Anyone near FoD have a known good charger/battery who could meet up ?
He'll happily drive out to somewhere reasonable.
bit of brake cleaner alcohol on a cotton bud.... and another for the magnetic terminal attracts crap theory
Well it's got lights now. It seems it may be a wonky button, which apparently they're had a recall for. So he's forming a plan.
Wonky button means its a gen1 Kenevo where the battery forms part of the downtube
As you said they had a recall for a dodgy button so an easy fix for him
This is the recall we got on the 1st Gen batteries. Of the 4 we had only 1 needed to be looked at and the modifications done.
