Well I’ve got a Karate Monkey ordered, and due to arrive which now needs building up. Im sort of new to all this wide wheel shennanagans but wanted to be able to run up to a plus size 3″ tyre, but also maybe switch down to a 2.4 and put them on my Troll as a solid touring hog as well. I wondered if an i35 would fit the bill or do I need to go up to i40 to run the 3″ and therefore sacrifice the possibility to switch.
Also, has anyone seen any good wheelsets around? Up to £400 ish.

I'm running WTB i35 Scrapers with 3.0" Rangers and they seem fine, nice round profile without feeling like they will roll off the rim. A wider rim isn't going to work as well with a narrow tyre, but I think you'd be alright either way.

I use a hope tech enduro wheelset, 29er.
I’ve used schwalbe big apples (2.3) and surly knards (3.0) on the same rims, no problems with width, I think the rims are 19mm ID.
With the bigger tyres i have to push the hub pretty much all the way to the rear.
