can anyone vouch for the wheel build quality of justridingalong? Always used Merlin before but they dont have as good a selection of 29er components

They're spot on - or at least the ones they've done for me have always been so.

They really know what they are doing and are also very helpful if you like to have a dabble building your own wheels. I recommend them.

I've had wheels from them on both bikes for the last 4 years - still perfectly true. Highly recommended.

my merlin ones didn't last long before going out of true 🙁

Just ordered a front wheel from JRA - they seemed pretty knowledgeable on the phone and confirmed my decision to go with an old school ztr 355 instead of a crest 🙂

Had a hub gear wheel from them and it's good.
Helpful, and good to deal with.
No probs.
I'd use them again.

I've used them in the past (few years ago) and they're building me a pair of 28h hope 2's with stans ztr crest/cx-ray spokes/prolock nipples as i type this - they build a bloody good wheel, recommended.

You can buy cheaper elsewhere if you wish to occasionally retrue, but i've never had an issue with the build quality of my other JRA wheels so i figure it's worth it for a smidgeon extra....and they're decent folk.

Very helpful, quick to build them and post the wheels out to me and generally did a great job on my 29er P35s. I've since given them a fair hammering on my yelli screamy including the DH tracks at forest of dean and they're still perfectly straight. I'm about 14.5 stone as well so not particularly light on wheels.

I've beat the hell out of my cross wheel they built me - it's still spot on (a23 rim on an XT disc hub).
Great service.

Really helpful with custom options. Ask if it is not on there site. Mine look nice but only done 10 miles on them - they are still true.

They built me a top pair of 29er lefty wheels with Crest rims last year and they are still running true - despite my portly frame putting a good 105kg load on them. As well as building good wheels they were also very responsive to my endless stupid questions - top people, top company, top wheels.

10/10 from me, build several wheels for me when I used to work over that way.

Great quality but don't get spangly coloured allow nipples as they'll sieze after 2 years and leave you needing a full rebuild if you buckle one....

Never used their wheels (have Merlins which have been fantastic) but have spoken to them at Bespoked and would definitely put my money their way.

they're great - did me a great deal on some old stock, built me some superbly lightweight wheels for xc racing, which I duly hammered the crap out of and they're truer than my EX1750s!

I have a pair of XT/Stan's that they built me about 5-6 years ago that are still as true as can be after being on at least 3 different bikes used constantly during that time. The hubs are actually worn out but I can't bring myself to disturb such an excellent build

Just to counterbalance this, I've bought 3 sets of wheels from JRA.. 2 sets very good, no problems, last set (road wheels) the rear wheel spokes went very loose after a couple of rides.

Turns out ALL the spokes in that wheel were very, very loosely tensioned - certainly not good enough to keep the wheel straight and certainly not good enough on a £400 set of handbuilt wheels.

May have been built by a trainee or junior? Or maybe just a Friday afternoon pair?

Did you mention the poor spoke tension to them Digger90?, i'm sure they would rebuild the wheel with correct tension free of charge as they pride themselves on faultless builds and customer service.

Haven't ordered from them (yet) but can vouch for the advice.. Inspires confidence when you're shelling out a few hundred quid

Thanks everyone.

I emailed a question to them and had a detailed answer back within a couple of hours. Followed by another Q and a prompt A. Also, the answer I was given was to go for the cheaper brass nipples, i.e. they don't try to maximise profit at the expense of what the customer needs, which I respect a lot.

Ordered my custom wheels from them this afternoon. Will report back when I've received and ridden them!

I would have preferred to order from Merlin, but they just don't have the choice available unfortunately, e.g. 29er Flow EX rims; 142x12mm bolt hubs etc.

Popped in today and bought a few things. Top blokes and good coffee! Going to push the button on some 29er wheels shortly.

No. I'm sure they would have done, but it would have meant boxing/packing and sending the wheel back to them and waiting a while.

I have spoke keys and truing stand so did it myself.

I'm happy with JRA's customer service - they seem good. The point is, it should not have happened to a handbuilt, £400 wheel set in the first place.
