Absolutely gutted...10 mins of riding at Cannock and came a cropper on the ice on one of the black sections putting a massive dent in one of the seat stays which has also bent it!

What does scrap to fetch these days?!

So much for a fantastic start to the new year on my first ride 🙁

As requested Darren.

Thanks to all...will be dropping Enigma an email and pics to see what they think. If not I'll try Dan at Stanton and see if they'll be selling any on the cheap (with it being an unfashionable 26er lol)

Buy a more durable frame next time if one off caused so much damage.

Oof! Hope you can get it fixed mate - you'll probably never crash it again in years then.

Buy a more durable frame next time if one off caused so much damage.

Thank god Mr Helpful has arrived.

Could've happened to anything.

That sucks, hope the repair is reasonable!

Tbh it didn't feel like the greatest of accidents and I've had much worse. Everything was miraculously OK. No damage to the forks, pedal or bars...not even a scratch. Must have just got really unlucky with a protruding rock!!

And I thought helitape prevented these things lol 😉

Sometimes a small off can have a big effect - a well (or badly depending on your view point) placed rock can wreck a frame. Friend of mine did similar damage to a 456 carbon when the bike was just dropped, but onto something sharp and hard.

I'd try Stanton first and see if they'll supply a stay , I'm pretty sure Mark at Enigma wont want to repair but will fit a new one - I had a similar thing happen .

Filler and a decent sticker. The Kryptonite security stickers bond very well and are durable.

Assuming the rear triangle is not off.

"Black Ice"? Or Red or Blue ice?? 😉

Or did one of those ninja killer smooth pebbles leap out and grab ya!

Either way, looks fixable to me

These incidents ( however unusual) always put me off spending lots on money on something to ride off-road. Is Ti really that vulnerable?

Yeh, has to be said, for a bike that's gonna be abused, Ti is a bad choice.

I'd keep riding it if it's still straight. If/when it does fail, replace it with the steel version.

Wow, think I might have cried.

If you get it repaired, I'll swap it for my far superior un-dented steel version if you like.

Steel, aluminium alloy and carbon frames are never damaged when you hit them off rocks. They all seem like a much better choice.

But when they break, they're much cheaper to replace!

Ouch.

Hope you get it sorted buddy...I'd be pretty cheesed off if it was mine. Hopefully the repair won't be too bad price wise and fingers crossed Stanton can help you out. San seems like a pretty good chap having met him last week.

Is it just the angle of the picture or have you got a huge tyre fitted on a very skinny rim?

It was on that new small black section with the woodwork. First time doing it too. Ah well...if it can be saved great...if not it'll have to be the blue 631 version. It just rides so well over everything and is only 25lb for a do it all bike. Just have to lose a few lbs from the midriff instead lol

2.2 Contis on AC all mountains and they're 24mm inner I think.

Thanks for all the responses including the baiting ones...they were funny! 😉

That new section has had a few people already and it was very icy on the chase this morning. I'm sure it will polish out.

Sympathies. I can only imagine the bitter disappointment on seeing the stay – such a nice frame. Hopefully a clever wielder type might be able sort it out – all the best with that.

Immediately after the off, did you do the customary thing of checking that your man-tonsils were not hanging from the handlebars before doing anything else (or am in the only one that does that) 😀

That rock garden gave me a superman OTB resulting in a knackered hand the week after it opened. Particularly annoying as I cleared it five times on opening day. Hope your frames gets healed quicker than it's taking my right paw.

It wasnt a big off so just gave it a very quick glance, jumped on and rode back to the cafe...where I then discovered it. Like I say it was nothing I haven't done dozens of times before...but it just landed on an unlucky placed rock.

Must admit my hip, wrist and hand are hurting quite a bit now...but not as much as my pride or bank balance!!

Hope the wrist gets better soon.

I did something similar witj a stick in the wheel durong the first ride of my Curtis.

Consensus from tje frame builder was leave it and ride. M8ne wasn't quite as bad. I put a sticker over it and have got used to it now.

Ask the builder.

I had a cracked Soda (bought it cracked) and got Enigma to repair it, it had a fine second wind and as far as I know is still going strong. Smaller job than a new stay obviously but still, they'd get my recommendation. Not just for repair, but for an honest evaluation of what's the best options.

Polish! It's already slippy enough!

To add insult to injury (or stupidity), took the bike out of the car this morning...and have discovered I have left the pike maxle in the car park...with no chance of getting back there before the weekend!

Not that I'm in current need of it obviously! Lol

I know that pain.... I killed my Yeti ASR5c by crashing into a Lakeland rock that was sitting up like a iceberg, I couldn't get the bike away from it. Being carbon, it didn't look that bad, but it was creaking.... The home insurance paid out and I bought the Liteville

We have accidental damage and cover away from the house. I didn't even have to pay the excess as they use Wheelies who couldn't supply the frame, so they just bank transferred the cost minus excess

P20, who are you insured with and when did you make the claim?

I have accidental damage and away from home cover, but would never expect them to payout if I crashed my bike into a rock!

I can also confirm M&S cover accidental damage. They paid out after I stacked my roadbike on black ice couple of years ago.

I currently have M&S insurance 😀

I did try to rationalise this. If they pay out for you dropping your DSLR and smashing the lens, why would they not pay out for a bashed bike? Unless there is a specific clause excluding it? Think they might quibble over it if you were racing enduro/XC/DH etc at the time though

Why is it different if you're racing? Genuinely asking. I couldn't see anything in my Ts&Cs that excluded race conditions.

Normally riding (road or xc) you're in a shared use environment so you should be riding slower than all out race pace. Pushing yourself to extremes is obviously more costly to insure against.

I'm changing to M&S insurance this week after this incident as at least I'll be covered in part for full suss frame.

Dan offered me a crash replacement, but still too hefty so he's trying to sort a replacement stay for enigma to use.

I had a payout from insurance for accidental damage cover about 10 years ago when I snapped the backend of my Sunn full sus frame with a rather optimistic line choice involving a lot more air time than first intended.

Frame wasn't available any more so they paid out, bought a new Ellsworth, they didn't want the old frame back and told me to dispose of it however I wanted. About 4 months later I managed to fine a NOS back end in a shop that had had to replace a front triangle under warranty for a customer, double win 😀
