Okay I get trade/staff discount but even then a Roubaix (triple, for teh haterz) and a ti Brompton are big spends!
Not bought a new off the shelf bike for 10+ years either!
Very excited.
can you pass on your discount to STW family and friends?
Sorry, a TI Brompton??
😆
Goodness
Gracious
Me.
What did you choose the Roubaix over?
Take it you only had the choice of the brands your shop stocks?
What did you choose the Roubaix over?
Moaning about customers.
Can you fix a Ti fork with a wooden salad spoon?
Jealous, btw
A TI Brompton? - that is the ultimate niche bike and i salute/doff my cap to you - impeccable taste!.
Dunno bout the roubaix though...........?
😉
Rubbucks' are ace. Good call.
R.E. The Brompton - you know they are launching a 17.5" wheel version next year?
😉
Good stuff - have you found Bromptonification yet?

Tarmac, Venge and Wilier/Cannondale/Giant. We get a better discount with SBC, and the Tarmac and Venge were too harsh (and aero apart, no faster I believe), it's ultimately going to be a general purpose road bike although it'll get used for tri's for a while.
I'd always thought the ti Brompton to be a waste of £, but I'll own this forever I think, and lugging it around means weight matters more than any other bike.
Ben - not yet, I fear that could be a time-hoover! I do want to get my 2 x 3 deraileur set-up working, still struggling to sort it out, looks like I'll have to grind the outer lip of an 11T. Should save 1lb though I think, though ratios will echo the Sram 6 speed and not the BWR. I wonder if it's been done before.
I do of course have my own idea for a folding bike, made of carbon. If I ever get my DIY finished, a wooden proto will be made!
Wooooo, niche carbon foldie...
Neat, keep us informed 😉
You're doing the 3 at the back with the Brompton derailleur? No, I've not seen that done before.
Wooh. A first.
If I ever CBA doing it...
How big do you go sprocket-wise with your conversions Ben?
A Brompton? We aren't friends anymore.
i was chasing a guy on a brompton this morning, he mustve been on a Ti one, coz its the only way he could outpace me! 😉

I use a 20t on the Sturmey 8-speed hub, that's a different chainline to standard, though, and it's a very tight fit especially on a titanium frame - they're not built to the same tolerances.
Luke, had one for months! You'll see the light one day.
Ben I've read that a 19T will go in the frame OK, and if I limit myself to that then I need the 11T to get the jumps right.
It all depends on the chain line - the problem is interference with the chainstay which tapers inwards a lot.
OK that shouldn't be an issue, but what about limits imposed by the tensioner?
On my earlier 8-speed kits I used the 2-speed tensioner with spacers to alter the chain line - it was okay, though I have a better way now.
No I meant does the tensioner not limit the largest cog you can fit - IIRC you lengthen yours for this reason?
Yeah, that's what I meant too 😉
The 2-speed tensioner has the top cog further away from the axle, so it can accommodate larger sprockets - though I might have been using 19t cogs on the X-RF8 back then, not the 20t on the X-RF8(W).
The single-speed tensioner has the top cog closer in so I have to modify it.
So what's the biggest cog on a 2s?
Well I was definitely using 19t, maybe 20t.
