Couldn't help myself! 150 dollars per rim for carbon....had to take a punt to see what the deal is with carbon wheels!
Giddy for when it arrives now, I'm going to lace em up with CX-Rays and Hope Pro 2's. Then I'm gonna top the build off with a set of the new Hans Damp Super Gravity tyres (semi dual plies that weigh about 900g, so they should protect the rim). I've worked out these should build to 1500g, 300g lighter than my Flows and I'm running tubes at the moment! Going to go tubeless with the new hans dampf tyres so that may save a tiny bit more!
Although if I ran tubes I guess rim failures might be a little safer.
The next two weeks need to go quickly! Goodbye battered to shit straightened out Flows!
Has anyone got any tips on how to treat carbon rims? Are metal tyre levers etc a no no?
If they are vulnerable to metal tyre levers, I wouldn't want to ride them down a mountain.
Theoretically if they are well made, it is perfectly possible to build a rim lighter and stronger than normal alloy rims. Ever seen the santa cruz vid of the frame being smacked against a concrete block? Carbon is not as vulnerable as many imagine.
Cool, I was just checking to see if there was something I missed, mtbr seems to indicate these rims are pretty strong. I ordered it with the 3k matte weave finish just to protect the UD carbon from stress accumulating around scratches.
I'm looking forward to lacing these
Something a bit different to do when university is over.
They are excellent rims. Been riding mine for a few months. Laced them to DT240 hubs with black DT Revolution Spokes - stealthtastic. Running them tubeless at around 30 psi, the ride on my hardtail was transformed after moving from Flows.
Link to said rims?
Are carbn rims any different to lace up than ally?
I laced them up as I would any other rims, to be honest.
