As title just met my first forum person, Pop Larkin.

Totally nice bloke and the bike I've bought off of him looks to be in very good condition too.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Cheers.

Steve.

My daughter's pink Ridgeback previously belonged to theotherjonv's daughter. There was a dodgy exchange of bike for cash in Trowell services one dark winter night....

I once knew a bloke, who knew another bloke, that rode SS'ers, who over took a bloke on another SS'er, who then proceeded to strip off his jersey whilst riding along a trail, who then over the bar'ed whilst holding on with one hand sticking his tongue out.

Cool eh.

Talking to your neighbours? That's not the STW way!

There are definitely more forumites know me than the other way around. I think working in The Bike Chain had something to do with that. I only met Trail Rat for the first time a few weeks ago which was a bit weird as it seems we've known each other much longer.

I assume there's a large group of folk round Hebden know each other. And the MNPR crowd?

I'm pretty sure there's at least three or four from my regular riding group on here but I have no idea at all who they are and none of them has called me out yet (too embarrassed to admit knowing me?).

I am 99% sure there is one user who I know through a university friend and have done quite a few weekends riding with in the past.

There are a couple of others from dates/random comments that I reckon I probably knew at Southampton uni a long long time ago.

My girlfriend is still somewhat bemused that I bought her a second hand Prince Albert in a car park in Slough from a stranger off the internet. She only ever refers to it as The Prince.

I thought it was mandatory once someone knows you on STW to delete your account and create a new one under a new name?
For example [s]Goldigger[/s] Goldigger2 who would know? 😀

I was totting up how many forumite's I have met - at least 20 I could call by first name, and likely another 20 out on trails and got chatting kind of a way.

Scarily I have had three forumites walk or ride up to me and say 'are you matt_outandabout...?' on three different days. 😯

I've met people on here before I was even on here, and not even through biking.

Have since met a few of the STW Bristol Chapter Massive on the regular rides.

Unsurprisingly the STW (northern chapter) forum rides used to garner quite a few, I think 45 was the largest turnout (I wasn't on that one tho)

Two guys came up to me in a pub and said "hey, you're miketually!"
I think I did that to you at kielder100. I've also done that to a few local mtb bloggers out on the trails, I expect it can seem a bit creepy.

45 for the largest turnout!! (Northern turnout)I think us Bristolians need to up our game as we've only managed 8 max.

though I prefer to think of it as quality over quantity.... 😯

Re Southampton uni

How long long time ago?

I was there from 95-98, had a nasty purple bike (on which I warrantied almost every single component before cracking the frame) followed by a much nicer cheaper blue GT that got rebuilt with all the parts from the previous bike that were quite nice. That gt's still in the family 20 years on.

Two of the most spectacular and funny crashes I ever saw were on a STW ride near Pitlochry. Scotroutes disappeared completely into a ditch surrounded by Gorse. It seemed to defy all sorts of physics. A little while later Househusband came off at about 30mph cartwheeled and then did a perfect impression of a bouncing bomb. I've never been more sure we were going to have to call for a helicopter but he got up took some man up pills and kept going.

I know a few, though mostly I'd say my primary reason for knowing them is something other than STW. I went to university with Northwind, for example, and got back in touch with him after I had a letter published in WMB. I probably knew stevenmenmuir via Glentress Trailfairies before I realised he was on this forum too.

The main time I recall meeting "people from STW" was many years ago now when a bunch of then forum regulars including Jedi and mamadirt were on a trip to Glentress and I bumped into them there.

I think that I first met TJ and househusband on a ride I organised here. At one point on that ride househusband borrowed my Cotic Sould and liked it so much I was worried he was going to ride off with it! I think he ordered his own later that day...
