And now they seem to creak like buggery.
Correct fork grease used, oil in lower legs, foamies also saturated in oil.
Why would the creak? Bushings?
It's driving me nuts ...
Top cap torque. If they're not tight enough, they creak. 28Nm off the top of my head, but do check.
Thanks
Will try that -
But I only did the lower legs ....
Crush washers replaced?
Yes ... no sign of oil leaking
headset
will be checking the headset and the "cockpit" tomorrow
And also the year shock mount ...
Probably your rear axle not tight enough.
I find creaks never come from where you think.
Headset. Maxle.
Or some completely unrelated problem on something you didn't even touch which your bike thought would be amusing to annoy you with.
If I could have a superpower, I'd like to be able to instantly tell why bikes were creaking.
Worst Marvel movie ever 🤣
I dunno, sounds more exciting than the 10 mins of Doctor Strange I put myself through.
Could be lack of oil around bushes.
Did you put oil in lowers before the second set locate or after?
Or maxle, or brake bolts.
Or it's coincidence and it's the headset
Could it be the dreaded CSU creak? Just had my Lyrik Ultimates replaced under warranty, and now my Pikes have started which won’t be under warranty.
I discovered that my front axle creaks, I always thought it was the headset, stem or bars, and have probably wasted ages cleaning and torquing stuff, turns out if I do my front axle too tight and grab wheel between legs you can make it sound. Something to try.
ok - headset replaced ( I was running a -2 Angle Set - and I think it makes it too slack. Lovely and stable going down but a little hard to get round tight corners). So the originalHope is back on.
Handle bars / stem greased, saddle rails greased.
Left the fork alone at the moment - but a quick ride around the block shows that the creak has gone for the moment.
Just to answer some questions from above. Oilwent in when is says it does - at the end, making sure it stays out of the locator thread - 5 mm one side , 15 mm the other.
And just for good measure I turned the bike upside down for an hour two so everything gets its fair share ...
Will check front / back axles
Thanks
BTW - never used Torque Caps ... should I?
Could it be the dreaded CSU creak?
How would you describe the noise?
Going to hit Lancing Clump and Steyning in about an hour. I will report back on any change...
and they squeaked / creaked like buggery - deffo the forks . So just done another leg service - but with more SRAM butter. And everything that moves lubed ...
