I just yesterday bought a brand new Scott Aspect 930...I took it round to a friend's today and he noticed that when the brakes are engaged the wheels have some play in them and clunk back and forth slightly. It looks like the hub which the brake disc is attached to is attached to the wheel using some kind of spline - and I guess that's where the play comes in. My friend's bike (a Marin) is different in that the whole thing seems to be one unit.
I'm wondering if this is normal? Or maybe something isn't tightened properly...any thoughts?
are they centrelock discs? if so, torque them up with a cassette removal tool and it should alleviate the problem if that is the issue.
Certainly doesn't sound normal, if you've got a splined hub/rotor have you checked the lock ring is tight?
Also have you been back to the shop you bought the bike from, should be an easy fix.
You sure it's not the pads moving in the caliper?
Certainly seems to be the wheel moving independently of the brake disc. Probably just the lock ring loose but I'll get the shop to have a look and sort it out.
Is a splined hub a bad thing? Strikes me as not the best design for something that spins continuously...bound to work loose and wear and end up failing I'd have thought.
