Blimey, been going over Google maps and there seems to be an abundance of trails about.
So those of you that ride over them, do you take your MTB's or crossers? I don't have either at the mo. But before I move down I plan to do a deal with Orbea through work.
Prior to looking I'd only intended to carry on road riding.
There's shedlaods of stuff in that area of the SE for an MTB. It's brilliant. Both on the doorstep and within about a 1hr drive radius.
Depends what you want to do. Both work. For Falmer, Friston and more twisty, flinty stuff hardtail or rigid MTB is great. For more Downs, linking up road and bridleway Cross or Gravel is great. Some fantastic loops taking in sea, country and urban.
I'm in Lewes and some good road riding round country lanes locally or to High Weald or Pevensey.
Both, obviously 🙂
If you're prepared to spend time learning which bits of path are passable in winter on a cross bike it's doable and in the summer the only real restriction is how fast you can go before your eyeballs pop-out. A good mix of road and offroad on a single ride on a cross bike is a bit of a local winter staple.
For pure offroad most winter riding on an MTB makes it a more pleasant experience.
there's over 50km of singletrack at Stanmer Park currently and Steyning has some proper downhill trails as well as some less technical trails.
Join 'Brighton MTB' on facebook and also 'Sussex-MTB' - both good local resources.
