Anyone running their rim brake carbon road wheels? (the Mahi Mahi?).

I know they are generally well thought of but there was a Hambini 'roasting' on YouTube suggesting they were not very stiff? Don't fancy sitting through the vid but wondering if there's any substance to it, am stubbornly sitting closer to 90kg than 85kg these days but am also used to Fulcrum wheels which I think are generally quite stiff.

I might be able to source the carbon equivalent to my Racing 3s, but they're still a 17mm internal rim whereas the new Mahi Mahi will be 19mm apparently...

I'd probably buy them specifically because Hambini is a complete cockwomble.

Sigh, that guy again. Is there anything he’s reviewed that isn’t, apparently, a lethal example of negligent manufacturing?

Can’t speak for the carbon but my trail dog alloys have had three consecutive winters of single speed abuse and are as good as new. 10/10, would recommend

Road.cc have just reviewed the JRA carbon monitor wheels and liked them - sorry I know its not the model you asked about!

Again, can't speak for the Mahi Mahis, but I'm now onto 3 sets of JRA wheels - 2 alloy ones, 1 each rim and disc (oldest of which I've had for 9 years) and a set of Monitor carbons on my new gravel bike - less than a month old, but on the 3rd ride got smashed onto a rock hard enough to put a half inch cut in the tyre bead - not a mark on the rim and no wobble.

Like everything I've seen Jon build - they're all crazy tightly laced and so far the only issue I've had with the hubs was wearing out some pawl springs on my winter roadie.

Talk to Jon. He's quite bullshit-free to deal with.

They'll be Light Bicycle rims on Bitex/Novatec hubs, so it's hard to know how you could make them any less (or more) stiff than any other carbon wheel company. Presumably he'd be referring to lateral stiffness which I doubt you can feel anyway. And +1 to what scruff says.

That said, I'd be on the lookout for some second hand wheels - there are tons of rim brake deals to be had now that everyone wants disks. That's why they're on sale.
