I like Plus bikes, they work for my bust wrists and now my body and technique has got used to my Jones Plus its just great for me.
I'm going to france for a while with family, the Plus bike is good for family riding, i can add racks and do family stuff, question is will it be any use for me in Morzine?
I'm not a down hiller, i just want to go and ride trails in the early mornings and do some stuff with the kids on their bikes during the day.
Should i be taking a stache with sus forks instead?
thanks
alex
there's plenty of fun to be had without suspension.
The chemin du rennard runs from le Lac des Mines d'Or all the way down to St Jean d'Aulps along the valley bottom. Use lift assistance to get on to the easier descents or XC trails such as the tour of the plateau de Loex off the Chavannes lift, or Around Mont Chery via Mont caly off the Chery Bubble to col d'Encrenaz and then down via Cote d'abbroz or a climb up on to the ridge through the Bois Noirs and then down into Essert Rommand.
There are fire roads and easier trails (Blues Greens) on the Supermorzine and around Avoriaz.
I rode my old/std Jones on a load of natural stuff around there a few years back. Some open easy trails and some steep 'off piste' type stuff. The steeper and slower/techier it was the better the Jones did vs other (sus) bikes. The Plus would be great fun there, even better. A sus fork can help if you're on more general trails of the MTB runs though, it can get pretty fast and rough.

Thanks for this much appreciated.
I'm hip to the bike working super well on slow and steep, just wasn't sure what to expect with going slower on steep things if everyone else is tearing down the place.
With these place names, I'm off to a great start.
if you know of anything specific that's great for and afternoon with 3 youngsters under 10 with reasonable stamina let me know. Family trip planning feels a bit like taking them to the alps in winter, how things go wrong when you end up too far from home on the wrong side of the mountain...
at least with skiing they just gotta get down.

Send them for some time with MCF, then they just need to get down and will have a great time doing it (admittedly depending just how far under 10 may be an issue),
Morzine on an XC bike, are you mad?

Do it - yes there are a few bits of braking where I thought 'ooof' and had to back off, but 95% is just fuuuuuun. Make sure you have good brakes - mine worked hard all week with me being a brifter and only 160mm rear. I also broke two spokes - have a wheel true/check before you go, mine were 5 years old....

Ah got it. Not everyone there really is tearing downhill, there's a fair number of 'steady' riders on most runs, particularly the main or smoother ones from what I remember. The fast Frech guys are good at passing you w/o being dicks about it. They're used to it. If you hear a whistle or a whoop behind you just hold your line and they'll ride past.
^ I agree - most folk are great at passing slower folk.
And I thought we would be slow...a deep, deep satisfaction in going around outside of berm on a steel HT in t-shirt above a full enduro-gnar bike with stormtrooper aboard...
thanks again guys, this is helpful.
if that 2nd photo of the trail in Matt's post is anything to go buy it's going to be great.
Lots like that, lots with braking bumps (the biggest issue IMO) that you need to take a neat line around. Steep doesn't need suspension. Speed on smoothish doesnt need suspension.
You won't be fastest, but you will have fun...
