I current run my Loops bars with foam grips up to the controls and then the loop section taped.
The grips I use (Clarks IIRC) are plenty long and comfortable but pretty fragile.
I was going to wrap the grips in bar tape but I'm sure I read that the bars were meant for bar tape instead of grips - Have got that right?
Do any of you run bar tape instead of grips on yours?
Nah - like you I run long foam grips to controls and then bar tape round the loops. I'm not sure bar tape on its own would be as comfortable and wrapping it over foam grips would probably mean the tape coming loose and moving around (the foam being so squashy).
I use the long foam sections from SJS (I'm sure they are sold elsewhere). Can't say I've found them particularly fragile.
I used ergon grips, then bar wrap for the section up to my controls.
tried clarks foam stuff, it compressed too much for me.
esi grips are too sticky, and the chunky one are too thick.
Think the H-bars were generally a grip+tape mix but work fine with both. I have full tape here on one of my bikes with loops, foam grips+tape on the other. Full tape wrapped over a spray-mount coated bar and wrapped close/well overlapped is comfy, no lumps or inconsistent bits at the grip/tape join etc.
Still meaning to try that grab-on stuff from SJS, looks ideal. Grab-ons were great grips, still got a set on one bike.
What are those aeropads Jameso?
Some old Profile wrap-around pads that attach with velcro. A concession to needing a hands-off rest at times for that ride but didn't bother with TT bars, can't pedal very effectively from an aerobar position on that bike anyway. It was just a road cruising-slump position.
I,ve gone both 🙂
