Anyone get hand pain when (just) using these?
I'm still a relatively new user of these (fewer than 20 rides), I use loop bars with ESI grips and get the odd sharp twinge in the heel of my palm (ulnar nerve I think, base of palm down from little finger).
My gloves do have a little padding in this area, thinking I may have to bin the grips and get some Ergons
i got hand pain or wrist pain for the previous 30yrs.
i fitted jones loops earlier this year.....i dont suffer from any hand or wrist pain at all now.
i fitted some cork bar tape last week.....comfier than chunky esi grips.
Unsure whether tape will be any better. I have some old Ergons kicking around somewhere, shall give them a bash.
It may be my hand position, I notice when I get it my hands are quite far back, just overlapping the edge of the grips, may be the bar bungs digging in
You have Jones bars? You're getting worse than I thought.
Currently suffering the same myself. Jones loops and extra chunky esi's.
Earlier today I flipped the bars over and I've put on ergons.
I'll be testing them tomorrow.
I use Ergons on mine, which work well. I've never had any issue with my Loops, but I did previously with OO Mary bars, I had them angled back too much, maybe try experimenting with that.
Angle them down a little more.
Try grafting for a living!
Yeah they're angled down more now. In line with the stem, I shall try a little lower.
Postie you have more time off than I do!
Maybe you need a longer stem

Heh! Shorter one on since that ^ initial build pic
Better, but no magic bullet.
I had a few aches in that area when I first started using H-bars. I was still in the riser-bar habit and my hands wanted to rest at about 30 degrees, not the 45 deg of the H-bar, so the grip was at an angle across my palm and hit that pressure point on the outer edge of my palm. After about 6 months or so, maybe longer, they felt totally normal and my hands rest at the same angle as the grips. A good few years on them now, I can ride a rigid bike across pretty much any normal terrain for long, back to back days with no pain, just the general tiredness and soreness you get in contact points after a few too many days riding.
Compared to that, with normal bars after 20 years of riding I still had very sore wrists after 5-6 hours, even with a sus fork. The Kona 100s were a trial of hand and wrist pain.
Agreed - sit on a 'comfy' bike long enough and you will want to get off : )no magic bullet
Been using H bars for 6 years, normal bars kill my wrists now.
H bars need a longer than usual, because they sweep back so much.
In my experience, getting the stem length *exactly* right is the key to these - then there's no going back.
Like FRC mentions just up there ^ I now, too find 'normal' bars hideously uncomfortable after years on both H and Loop bars (and Midges, which I find put me in a curiously similar position to riding on Loop bars).
