Read this on another forum. John Kelly is, as I type, attempting to ride the 3 UK rounds, and the miles in between. Started 4.40am today. No idea who he is but supposedly no stranger to big days out.
I can't see how his schedule is possible, but here it is:
PBR - 20h:10m
Rest - 03:10
Ride to Lake District (inc. break) - 12:10
BGR - 20:05
Rest - 00:15
Ride to Glen Nevis (inc. break) - 13:00
Rest - 03:10
CRR - 22:00
Tracker: https://share.garmin.com/randomforestrunner
Hat, whoever he is.
Is he riding the rounds or riding between them? Either way, brutal.
EDIT: He's running the rounds, rather than carrying his bike around them!
Hat, indeed! Looks like he's running though, and cycling between the runs? Nutter. 😃
EDIT: beaten to it above!
hah yeah, that's what I wanted to write but didn't read it back before posting! Doh.
This is an epic undertaking.
Btw, you wouldn't get much riding done on any of the rounds, I don't think.
John Kelly is one of the few finishers of the Barkley Marathons - he's a phenomenal athlete.
I think he's just moved to the UK and was looking for something to do...
Worth a bump even though I screwed up the OP.
PBR done, now cycling past the Shell Refinery at Ellesmere Port en route to Keswick.
I wish I knew what this thread was about
Pb, cr, bh, WTF?
Paddy Buckkey
Charlie Ramsey
Bob Graham.
If you really want to know Google is your friend. Too much to explain in a simple post on here.
Briefly this is ultra long distance fell running. The distances and height climbs that few on here would do on a bike....in a weekend.
Pb, cr, bg, WTF?
These are 3 long distance hill running challenges in Snowdonia, Lochaber and the Lake District respectively. They are between 58 and 64 miles in length and each involves about 8500m of climbing. They are all loops and the challenge is to complete the loop in under 24 hrs. Doing one is a major achievement for most runners. Only one person has done all 3 back to back but they used a car to travel between them. JK is riding between them which will mean about 405 miles of riding in two blocks.
Holy ****- makes more sense now.
That’s the sort of demented behaviour that makes me smile.
It's a whole other level lardman. Nicky Spinks has done doubles of all three rounds over the last few years and each of them was pretty big news but this is something else.
Anyone know anything about this fella (aside from his Barkley form)? Has he reccied any of the rounds? He can't be doing them solo, can he?
He hasn't reccied them to my knowledge but he has running support like most folk do their rounds with. The slightly worrying thing is that if he falls too far behind schedule some of his support might have to sack it. As for other form, he's done a sub 9hr Kona so can clearly ride a bike too.
A friend of mine knows him after meeting him at the Barkley and is supporting him on the last leg of the Ramsay.
If it runs on into Sunday I'd be tempted to turn out either to run with him on the hill or just see him finish at Glen Nevis YH.
Cannot get my head round it.
Just found his twitter, he only found out what nettles do last week!
Where the word epic may actually be an understatement. Inspiring.

Not far from Keswick now. Only 20 mins rest scheduled before starting the BG. He's about 9 hrs down on schedule and I suspect he's not going to produce the 18hr BG he planned for but fingers crossed for him. I basically lay down for a week after the BG and CRR so the thought of doing what he's doing is mind boggling.
Dodds done, currently en route to Helvellyn. Mental. 12 hours down, must have some very flexible pacers!
There's always someone willing to attempt something more mental, and the world is a better place for it.
Looks like he's quite far behind schedule, but completing this in anything less than a month is impressive in my book.
Perhaps riding over Kirkstone Pass wasn't ideal preparation for the BGR? (Or the preceding 150 mile ride. Or the PBR.)
Looks like he's on run #2 now! New GPS track started - part of the bike leg missing, battery died on his Garmin?!
Although his schedule has proved to be as optimistic as many thought he is still roughly on 24hr BG pace.
BG schedule calculator below for anyone who wants to compare his pace to 24hr pace. Looks like he's starting to fall a bit away from that now.
Leg 4 is quite tough for the first 3/4 ish but it eases significantly after Green Gable.
Actually, looking at it he's still a bit under 24hr schedule. Must've gone up Yewbarrow quick which is amazing at this point. It's a pig.
Yewbarrow is a killer to get up after the long leg over from Dumnail. I was pacing one attempt and when we got to Wasdale the pacers for the next leg had set off to see the sunset from the top. I had to go up and down Yewbarrow! I wasnt a happy chappy.
Back in Keswick, I can't work the tracker out but twitter is saying he's done the BGR in sub 24h.
His wife tweeted that he finished the BG in 23:45

Looks like he had some traditional Lakeland summer weather too:

Looks like game over. Massive effort.

Inspiring stuff!
Any idea what happened with this? Can't see anything on Twitter to indicate why he didn't complete. Tracker just stops somewhere on the ride to Scotland.
I expect he’ll put a post about it on his blog in due course.
Jonny Muir wrote about it if you can find his Twitter, seemingly he just ground to a halt after some horrendous weather on the Bob.
He sent me spreadsheets with his splits. He did the PBR in 23:11 and the BGR in 23:40. I know a few of his pacers on the BG as well.
