Cleaned my road bike this weekend and stripped the rear mech. Putting the jockey wheels back in and one has deep cut teeth, the other quite shallow more rounded teeth.
Now I can’t remember which should have gone where, or if indeed one has worn out ? Shimano 105 11 speed
Looking at pictures of new mechs it looks like they could be designed to be different but I can’t quite tell from the pics.
Anyone know for certain ?
Thanks
Yes, they are different. The top pulley is the guide pulley (and has side to side float built in), the bottom pulley is the tension pulley (and is directional - there will be an arrow on there)
They should be marked T pulley & G Pulley.
G pulley goes at the top.
Thanks but do the teeth have a different profile too? Or has one of mine worn excessively?

Yes
Sorry to hijack the thread, but a related question. Do I need to replace the jockey wheels if I am replacing a worn cassette, chain and chain ring?
While we are on the topic, do aftermarket options like the Superstar jockey wheels work ok? Looking at MTB use but they appear to be the same top and bottom..

Depends on how worn they are but probably
