I’m taking Jnr to Glentress over the next few days and need to decide which trails to ride. It’s been years since I’ve been there and I rarely rode the blues so I’m a bit out of touch. He’s quite a capable wee rider, loves jumps and techs stuff however only 11 so nothing too big or gnarly.
I’m thinking we session the blue freeride park, Betty blue, electric blue and possibly head up for a leisurely trip down spooky wood if his legs are good for it. I’ll take the ebike so can tow him up the trail roads so we can get a few laps in.
Any thoughts on what to do and what to miss appreciated!

The blue decent from buzzards is fun. You would have good fun staying around the jump park on the blues if that was too tame then spooky then the second part come back for a wee road climb to the motorway then back to berm baby berm. But I reckon BBB at least three times.

Pretty much climb as normal a wee play on teenage kicks , If he is fit climb back up and do cool runnings just after Berm Baby Berm . then turn left for the climb up to the other side of the motorway . There you can head back along the blue and do Berm Baby Berm or If your intent on spooky carry on and you will get to the picnic tables before the Spooky climb. Bear in mind Spooky is pedally As **** but if you do it turn left for Betty blue . and you'll end up back on the motorway. Its a real shame Mild Peril is so far away as its a blast .
I remember my son doing the red when he was really young and having a dull one on spooky , he dropped out of bikes for a while but at about 13 came back and now about twice as fast and 5 times braver than his dad.

Enjoy , GT is a great place for all ages.

The Green Trail (off the fire road down form the Skills Loop) is great - nothing technical but you can really flow along at some speed. We genarally do two laps of that and then some bits of Blue and/or Red as mentioed above.

My 11yr old did some of the red for the first time last week and loved it. We went from the bottom of Spooky to Sare Fecht then caught the blue to the bottom as it’s always been his favourite bit. We’re returning tomorrow to do the full thing! I’d try and do Berm Baby tho, as it’s probably the most fun you can have on that hill, and it’s easy to add it in mid climb then continue up the hill

Hoppy Jr (7 at the time) enjoyed the blues from Berm baby berm to the Peel centre, by the end of the day he did the red option too. We took the adrenaline uplift for the day which was really good. meant he could do loads of runs from buzzards to get his confidence going.

I've not done it for a while, but the last few bits of blue used to be just lovely (the admiral?)...

Good Game is a proper hoot too.

As for red graded trails
Magic Mushroom and Spooky Wood are probably the two easiest red sections.

Cool Runnings is a good one to try, its right next to Berm Baby Berm and its one of the harder red trails (its smooth but fairly steep) but its nice and short.

If you lad is comfortable on Cool Runnings then the run down Spooky Wood, Super G and Hit Squad should be fine.

Thanks all.
Friday evening we rode the blue and a lap or two of the freeride park. Berm Baby Berm was the definite favourite. I towed him up to the Buzzards nest car park, he rode the rest. The blue down from the buzzards nest was a little tame, maybe we’ll try the red next time.

Saturday morning was lots of party laps on Berm Baby Berm and the free ride park.

We’ll try the other trails mentioned above and I may take him to Innerleithen soon, if I remember, make or break, double d and Caddon bank are all quite flowy.
