In a last ditch attempt to stop my mother in law buying me unwanted tat for Christmas, I'm thinking a nice(ish) bit of bike clothing, probably a LS or SL Jersey or possibly a gilet.

Budget won't be Raphael end stuff (unless anyone knows of some good deals) ... Max £50 I should think.

Don't want tight race-roadie stuff, or baggy MTB stuff. So a more relaxed road-disc, or a slim MTB type fit.

Was looking at the Alpkit Rhythm jersey's which look quite nice. But any other go to choices at that kind of budget?

Stupid auto correct .. and too late to edit now ... 🙄

Budget won’t be Raphael

= Rapha, obvs!

So a more relaxed road-disc,

Roadish (ok, I mean suitable for riding a gravel bike ... In between bike, in between clothing ...)

Endura MTR stuff is nice slim. For fitting MTB stuff. Jersey with windproof front comes in long sleeve and short sleeve and is pretty versatile.

7mesh is great, might be something left in the always riding sale

7Mesh Eldorado is very nice, I’ve got a few long and few short sleeve versions and they’re ace. Medium fits me well at around 12.5 stone and a smidge over 6ft, I do also have a small that is just on the right side of tight too, so if you wanted a tighter fit just go a size down from what you normally wear. The quality is excellent and it’s very understated.

Stick with road-disc fit, I like it.

Mavic's stuff can come up a bit less baggy than a lot of brands, I have a couple of their nice slim-fit L/S jerseys that have lasted me years.

If there's a PedalEd sale then I like their stuff - but check the sizing carefully.

Morvelo?
Good, true to size fitting. Nice mix of designs and quality.

Torm long sleeve jerseys would fit the brief well.

Rather than starting a new thread, will revive this one ...

Went for the Alpkit Rhythm Thicky in the end, which is really nice. But after a handful of rides (including two commutes with a back pack) the material has started bobbling. Have sent it back to Alpkit for them to look at ... I kind of think that it should be up to a bit of back-pack wearing, so we'll see ...

Any suggestions for something a little more hard-wearing? But still a nice, slim, roady-ish ('gravel'!) fit at around £50?

Galibier is where I buy my roadie stuff. The fit is good, size up if you want a more relaxed fit.

I rate Morvelo’s jerseys - road ones could be too tight but depends if you want rear pockets or not. And they’re often made in Europe, if that matters to you. Winter Sale has finished now though.

I think the issue you have is that most jerseys aren't really specced to be worn with a pack. They tend to be made from polyester, which isn't particularly abrasion resistant relative to, say polyamide/nylon, particularly if you have a pack with abrasive mesh contact surfaces on straps, back and waist straps.

Which isn't much help. The weave/knit of the fabric will have an impact too, but in an ideal world, you'd want something with reinforced shoulders as a start point and maybe a pack with smooth-surfaced packs, Montane used to flag this up as one of the features of their outdoor packs.

I think if I were buying from Alpkit, I'd get one of their Woodsmoke tech shirts in preference to a jersey, not that that's much help. It just looks very cool.

+1 for Galibier, good quality kit and reasonable prices. Their gilet is recommended

The Galibier stuff looks good, and fairly priced.

Presumably MTB clothing is more likely to be designed a bit more robustly? Suggestions for a slim, shaped fit rather than baggy shapeless, from the MTB end of things?

another Morvelo vote - go upa size for roadie and not too tight or normal MTB - I like slightly baggy so end up in XL and I am 6 2" and 13.5 stone 34 waist (honest!)

Morvelo’s mtb jerseys are relatively close fitting and are often on sale. If there is anything similar for mtb I’d like to know. It is not really gravel though. However, their road stuff is also good value when discounted, so worth signing up to their email for offers.

The Rapha outlet in Shepton Mallet is worth a visit if you are out that way. Yeah yeah yeah but if it’s the price of dhb you are mad not to.

This is the same dilemma I find myself in. I don't want to look like Harry Enfield's Kevin the teenager in baggy body-armour-friendly MTB stuff and I don't want Castelli telling me I occupy the extreme fringes of human physiognomy in XXXL sizes.

Two labels I've found that fit the bill are Twin Six and Maloja. Not especially cheap at full price but you can always find it marked down somewhere, if you don't mind stepping out in last year's designs.

Never really got on with Morvelo. Found their road offerrings a weird shape with the rear pockets hard to get into.
