The main trek link doesn't seem to be available in the UK; can anyone figure out a way of watching this?

Watching on Eurosport, there's plenty of ways of getting it if you don't want to pay £3/month. (Look for a network stream...)

I looked on the first page for another thread and couldn't see one. Yes Ro5ey, my mind is on other matters; my beautiful wee baby boy bouncing away on his chair beside me 🙂

Wow! Some achievement and he still seems reasonably with it at the end!

by a long way i reckon. Bike 'tech' may of helped so the next few attempts may be closer to Jens's.

I can't imagine how fast he was going in the end to be able to increase the average speed up to 51. I'm surprised he didn't explode

it was interesting as his average speed increased during the attempt.
They did take a blood sample from his ear as soon as he finished i assume for a drug test?

How long until a TT specialist has a go and smashes that then?

I'm a huge Jens fan, but he was always gonna do it when you look at the technology behind his equipment versus the outgoing record.

What a stellar way to bow out of an illustrious career!

Called a negative split - finish faster than you start. AFAIK virtually every event bar a 24 solo is ridden like this if done 'by the book', obviously things can often conspire against you, but it's the usual way.

he hasn't really broken it though has he....

Jens was riding an aero TT bike, so the nearest comparison is Boardman's stonking 56km really, rather than the round-tubed retro one that Sosenka had.

I'm a big Jens fan but this is basically a new record, under new rules. So he's done quite well but someone will be along soon to beat it.

The bottom line is that Boardman's 56km is still the fundamental benchmark. If someone can get under that, under the new rules, then they deserve the plaudits.

.Yep. What I would love to know is what his lap speed was to make the average go up like Tha

i should of said that it was 'nice to see the average speed increase during the attempt'. He didn't seem too tired at the end so maybe he should of attempted the 2 hr record! (apologies for the comments, i did watch it in the pub)!

I think that's exactly why FC decided not to go for it, and presumably why Jens decided to have a crack at it pre-retirement.

Still a good effort, though.

Awe, you lot spoiled it 😆

Ok, so fingers in her ears, ignore them, get some leffe in and some chips, watch the whole programme and enjoy it.

It was bloody excellent.

A top effort here. Name in book and onto the list of hour record holders. Not a bad way to end a career!

Wasnt boardmans record in the superman position? The 'new' rule is a compromise, allows development on the 'athletes' record but would still have banned most of the outright record bikes.

IIRC, Boardman's Superman was 56.375, but he did a 52.272 on the Yellow Corima 'normal' type Pursuit Bike
