Yep, high fives all round. Every rider was having a blast. Really should have done some training. Weather was lovely, route was excellent. Beer waiting at the finish was very welcome. Some photos;

Daz - did you get your card and cash back? (It was me who called you as you were heading up Claife Heights)

Yeah I did thanks. Thanks for the shout! Although I could've done without the sprint back to get it then the sprint to catch back up on the climb 🙂

Great to meet you guys at the weekend. Still in awe at watching you (think it was you) ride up Walna Scar when the rest of us were shuffling up it like zombies.

Ha! Yes it was him (Whitestone, it was me that gave you Daz's card.

I was broken by then and there was just no way I could have caught him up )

Really nice to put a few faces to names.

An awesome weekend

@dazh - more a case of plugging away than anything else. I'd no intention of blasting the route in one go this year but then my wife stated that I'd be riding with her for the weekend 🙂 We were pretty chilled about things (despite the temperatures -I can't believe that there's been two stunning weekends of weather in a row): Sat was 8hrs riding and 4hrs stops; Sunday was 5hrs riding and 4hrs stops!

We skipped Claife Heights (and the Three Rivers descent) as my bottom bracket was making some truly horrific noises - it's a PF30 with an HTII adaptor and it's actually the adaptor that's failed as you can see the bearing cups move in relation to the frame! Now need to get it fixed for the Highland Trail in a couple of weekends.

@sandwicheater I don't think that pier was on the route was it? 😂

Thanks for organising Rich, it was my first time bikepacking, and my first ride over 40 miles. With a bit of preparation I might even have enjoyed myself! Same again next year?

The Etrex that was found, was it missing it's back? We lost 1 and  half between us but were reunited with 1 of them at Torver, so it could be ours.

I got  22 miles round (of the 50) before my bike had a catastrophic failure (freehub broke). After failing to repair it in the field by rigging the bike up as a fixie with zip ties I walked back to Ambleside to see if any of the bikeshops could help me out.  In the end Alpkit lent me a demo bike so that I could ride to Staveley and collect the van (since it was their freehub that failed, and not for the first time).  Not the ride I had planned.

What I did ride I really enjoyed - it's a brilliant route and once I have everything fixed I'll be out to ride it solo as soon as I can, then maybe tackle the 100 miler as a 3 dayer.

Thanks for organising Rich. See you all next year.

Well what can I say, what a weekend. The route was tough, really tough, but so rewarding. Some superb lakes single track, great craic and banter and a really warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Caught up with quite a few folk I hadn't seen for a while, and met a load of like minded people, all out to have a good day on the bike.

The weather held all day, some rain on Saturday night arrived just after we had slipped into sleeping bags and began drifting off into that deep sleep that comes after big days on the bike in the hills.

Sunday saw us up sharp for the push up onto Parkamoor then the epic descent through Grizdale forest. More up and down and finally the breakfast that had become lunch in The Apple pie in Ambleside.

The ride back to  Staveley with full stomachs and aching legs was a   great finish to a great event.

Thanks to Rich and  all those involved for a great event raising money for a very deserving cause

^^ brilliant summary of the weekend Tom^^

I'm the one with the shoulder injury  although I was holding up our little group *way* before my little off.. Despite that I have to say that I absolutely bloody loved it. More climbing preparation and different gearing required but I'll be back next year.
