Drop me a line tangwyn@gmail.com if you're coming so we can get an idea of numbers and make sure I make enough soup! Due to injury I might not ride so the Cotswold Massif tea van of old might find you along the way!
"led by a top xc racer" isn't selling it to us mortals.... but pencil me in, it's added to my calendar, i'll bail if she has a power meter 😉
She is a machine, but don't worry, social pace!
Wish i could do this. I've ridden with Rickie and can guarantee top banter and smiles. She is great and I didn't spot a power meter anywhere near her MTB.
Due to injury
you make it sound like a stubbed toe 😯
Brilliant idea, too early for me to diary it, so have fun.
I am in , can we go by the Stroud brewery?
They open at 11am on Sunday mornings!!
😀
😀 no chance Pete!
😥
If I can get a pass, I'll try and get there. Is there anywhere nearby I can park up in the van overnight that's _NOT_ a dogging spot? I don't fancy a three hour drive before a ride.
Possibly...I will mail you later!
Bugger, I'm away 🙁
It's a long way for me but there's half a chance I can make it.....
Doing Oktoberfest the day before but will drag my arse outa bed early and meet up on the way home to Derbyshire. Go easy on me I'm fat and slow at the best of times 🙂
Rickie is going to do a loop with bail options at various points, so if you fancy 1 or two hours out you'll be fine. I'll be at the canteen with the kettle on! Lovely walks here if you're bringing a non rider/kids. Everyone welcome!
Is there a creche available? Apparently i have child care....
Podster, you know where there is a bed for you and K if required
I'm in too - yes please! (If I can get a day off on license from el GF). Sounds great!
If there's gonna be a super-super slow short ride group - she might even want to join the ride too.. 😀
Edit: Just seen there's a canteen at base camp with walks attached! That might be able to keep her amused for a couple of hours - and perhaps she can talk novice female bike-stuff with a fellow novice female biker. Hmmmm...
May well join in for this one... Will bring the GF too if I'm coming.
Oh yes....I'll be there 😛
A Cotswold trail earlier today.........

I'm in.
Rickie missed the worlds 24 this year but reported that she still managed 400km last week and a full time job decorating. She's tapering nicely for Sunday! You have been warned...
When you say 'social' is that the kind of pace where I could get off and walk if we were to go up the W's or Black Quarries Hill type of incline? Can't get up either of those. I'm crap at climbing.
Yes, all welcome! I think 'solidarity among our community & thinking of Jenn' is the vibe, not a training ride or race! As mentioned Rickie will sort a route that can be peeled off at any point.
Sounds great - I'll apply for my Sunday pass.
I might be able to persuade a friend to come as well. Will let you know, but I'm definitely up for this.
Oh yes....I'll be there
Are you sure you're allowed off road these days?
Will you be able to cope with actually enjoying a bike ride again, rather than just doing it for the sake of it? 😉
Mboy.....I have checked with my DS an so long as I walk down the hills and don't go anywhere it's muddy and I am certainly not aloud to enjoy myself, he said I should be fine.
fatbobb the W is only for going down (the ladder anyway) going up it is wrong, thats what New rd is for!
Hoping to make it down from Minch for the ride, just waiting for a pass (weekend of 11+ exam results...)
Yup. I've got my hands on the car so I'll be there. With cake...... 😀
Keep promising myself I'd ride more new places this year.. so I'm in!
dickyhepburn - Memberfatbobb the W is only for going down (the ladder anyway) going up it is wrong, thats what New rd is for!
I can just about manage New Rd if I've had a few liveners in the weighbridge beforehand. Oh, the lows and slows I'll drag you down to should I get there.
If you pass the 11 plus will you be allowed out to play on your bike, then?
Our local sign makers (who ride) have kindly done 50 #Jennride cut frame decal (like the pro name stickers). Donation and I'll offer up what's left here after Sunday.
Hobbs House Bakery(Fabulous baker brothers off TV) are providing some rolls for your soup!
There's soup? Somebody stop me! 🙂
As injured host I'm doing a soup for lunch after the ride. I hope to ride a little, see how the burn is by Sunday. I think there will be a fair mountain of cake by the looks of things!!
Caaaaaaaake!! Cake's good. The only problem with cake is earning it though.
You've done a good job with the weather as well. Metcheck is showing warm-ish and clear right now. Good job!
The good folks at Castelli have donated a box of clothing so bring some ££. Bargain prices and all to the singletrack collection.
Amazing. Just amazing.
I can see I'll need to visit the hole in the wall on my way over. 🙂
Hope your going to wash it before Sunday tang
Nah! Well maybe, if I've got time...
Is it inappropriate to dip cake in soup?
Soup update: my wife had to go in for a minor emergency operation last night. I might not be able to manage soup. If not then filled rolls and loads of cake. I'll do my best.
Tang - Everyone just wants to ride their bikes, tea & cake is fine (please use an electric kettle), don't stress the soup, we'll be fine. Sounds like you've already set the #Jennride benchmark high! If you need a hand or some assistance while your dealing with home stuff, you have my email (and in profile), I lazing around today and can start early tomorrow.
Wife & child labour available at base camp from 12 if required. Could bring stove, pan & bacon to convert your soup rolls into sarnies.
"Tang - Everyone just wants to ride their bikes, tea & cake is fine (please use an electric kettle), don't stress the soup, we'll be fine. "
This
Ok! As host and people are travelling I want to make sure you're well fueled after Rickie has dealt with you! We have been donated rolls so they ought to make an appearance!
My wife is home and fine plus my parents will be up tomorrow. I may not make the beginning of the ride as planned, but I'm good either end!
I'm just looking forward to an ace ride with like-minded peeps in aid of a good cause. No need to stress about soup, or rolls.
Cake, on the other hand. Is a different matter.. 😉
Looking forward to it! 😀
Just had about £800 worth of Castelli stuff turn up!
Just had about £800 worth of Castelli stuff turn up!
Oh crap, this could get expensive! 😳
Will head down too if thats Ok - will try and prize my son out of bed to accompany me (easier said than done).
Cake, on the other hand. Is a different matter..
Fear not!
I have this covered!
Mrs PP has made this for us.....
Rock buns, brownies, ginger biscuits plus a strictly limited edition of SIX ONLY hand made pork pies!!

I could bring cheese and Branston for the rolls....?
Yes please peter! I'll bring butter and slice up some salad. Tea coffee sorted. Amazing Mrs P!
Consider it done, I've got a decent size block of mature cheddar and half a jar of pickle!
How many are we expecting, roughly?
Erm......I might have a couple of snack size banana malt loafs I could bring along...
Amazing Mrs P!
MrsPP can't come as she's organises a regular charity event once a month, unluckily tomorrow, so she sent cake!
She (and I) have met Jenn a couple of times at Dusk Till Dawn and Mayhem. I doubt she'd remember us but, well, you know, do I need to explain..?
Erm......I might have a couple of snack size banana malt loafs I could bring along...
I would take the piss but I can't even muster that! I will bring money to buy cake with though...
More chocolate brownies incoming.. hope there's enough people to eat them all! 😉
This looks tremendous, so sorry I can't make it, makes me proud of this group of cycling weirdos that I call myself part of.
Good effort everyone. Great turnout and a fun ride in good company.
Tang will be along later with the official update as to the monies raised.
£440 - well done everyone!
Thanks to Tang, Rickie and the cakemakers for providing a great day out in support of this heartbreaking cause. Nice to meet all of you STW'ers.
(I was the orange one)
Great day out - ta!
😀
Brilliant day. Great company, great ride, great cake!! Many thanks to Tang for organising, to Rickie for leading a great ride and thanks also to all the cake bakers and bringers. And all for an excellent cause. Thank you everyone 🙂
A great turnout of riders & a great ride.
Well done to Tang for organising & to Rickie for leading, it worked really well with the 25 riders, all getting through the singletrack without fragmenting the ride.
Fantastic selection of cakes fueled my ride home.
Great to meet some STWers and network a bit for potential future ride guiding.
Love the passionate positive riding vibes these crazy 24hr riders radiate.
I'm staaaaaaaaaaaaaaarving and about to consume lunch.
I don't think i've ever met Jenn, but her ride bonded some like minded souls, i hope shes comfortable with her loved ones today.
X
Yep brilliant ride and a good weekend overall with the Bristol Oktoberfest on Saturday. As above thanks to Tang for organising and Rickie for leading the ride was great fun. Just got home and reminding the family who I am but will post up some mostly crappy photos I took later tonight.
Great to ride with everyone, I hope you all enjoyed the climb up bear hill after I left you all. I think we could make this a regular monthly thing........perhaps.
Few pics...
Sticking up in the car park!

Also, I'm amazed how a few random people from a cycling forum can find a reason to get together and organise a ride like this AND put that amount of money in the pot.
I'm proud to be a part of that, and all those who put some effort into it (Basically everyone) should be too.
Absolutely! That you to everyone involved in organising this ride, with a special thanks to Tang for being awesome and Rickie for being a fantastic guide for us. Despite not making it up all of the hilss on wheels, I had a lot of fun.
PP, I've just told my wife how awesome the pork pies were. I think she'll try her hand at making some now!
Good aren't they? It's a Paul Hollywood recipie. I could send it to you if you like?
A smashing turn out today guys. Big smiles, groaning cake table and deep pockets. A real pleasure to host you all. Singletrack community at its finest.
Ricky putting the fear into everyone (she was gentle really)

Good ride yesterday boys and girls. Many thanks for organising, to those who brought plenty of cake (the sugar crash I experienced in the car on the way back was drastic!), and to those who organised the route (and Martin for showing us that cheeky trail whilst we waited for the others to catch up).
Thanks to Tang and Rickie for organising a great event yesterday and providing endless cups of tea and coffee after the ride. Also to the cake providers - who produced a table of such amazing treats! It was great to meet such a nice bunch of people on bikes. Another photo..
Sad sad day, I'm sure we shall all be pushing a pedal with Jenn in mind today.
Just to let you all know your donations have gone via the just giving page set up by witton plus gift aid.
