Hi @djflexure. That was us. Was good to meet you and your lad. I must confess to being only a little bit jealous of you two tucked up in a nice hotel room awaiting a full English. Was well earned though. You were pushing on..

Yes we enjoyed sharing a few miles with you too. Hats off to you (and all the others) for going around that course fully laden! I'm a proud dad too, considering he dosen't really ride and borrowed one of my bikes to do the event. Made it a special couple of days.

In fairness, you were some sort of epic adventurer 🙂 . That could not have happened at a worse point on the route.

Yeah.... Was a bit unlucky wasn't it.

You should of seen them though... They were buzzing... Just couldn't believe I'd ridden so far then slept on the hills 😂 I guess it was their first time out of London.

The real adventures were the paragliding guys you may of seen.
It was a cross country event around the lakes but the lack of wind meant they basically walked the route carrying their paragliders! I gave one bloke my water as he was desperate and another guy had those proper wobbly looking legs as he was trudging up Wrynose...

Was it you guys who I saw on the road climb up towards High Cross/Tarn Hows? I was on the green Orbea grinding slowwwwwly.

Sort of rings a bell but can't be sure @martinhutch. That whole section had much more steep climbing than I remembered.

f it was, your lad was doing really well.

He was going really well. I've trained a lot and he would have left me for dead, particularly on day 2.

@martinhutch - we rode/walked up the last of Wrynose with you (and the ****tty boy racers), and then down with the drone? If I wrote that it was me that gave you the push up Wrynose (and didn't mention it was only for 15m and I was walking), everyone would be well impressed, eh?

Best bit of the ride! 🙂 Nice to meet you! My legs were pretty gone at that stage.

@djflexure - I think I saw you and your lad later in the afternoon sat on a rock. We had a quick chat and you were looking for alternative routes. I thought you were both traveling light, makes sense that you were staying in luxury!!

Hi eskay. For all I was travelling light the bag I had started dropping into my rear wheelon the descent from walna (it was the first time I had used it and I'd done a crap job of packing it). Was a bit fed up when you saw us as it was spoiling the best bits and slowing us down. I took everything out and repacked it correctly. Was fine after that and we got back on track but missed the Hartner loop on someones advice, perhaps that was you?

@survivor

Finally got phone signal then a £50 taxi back to Staveley.

Coincidentally, my insurance renewal has just come through and Pedalcover offer a £100 taxi reimbursement. not sure if you are with them or another cycling specific insurance company - worth checking if you can claim it back.

Great ride Rich, big thankyou for organising, it was spot on. I see you even managed to sort the weather.
Gave Stephenson ground & Birker fell a miss, just dropped to Seathwaite and then onto Wrynose bottoms, and the loop over to Sadgill on the 2nd day, as we were knackered.

85 miles done, will aim to do the full 100 next year 🙂

The Lakes never fails to impress, lovely scenery and views.

Last ride for the Solaris, its off to pastures new. Next year it will on a full susser 🙂

First Jennride for me. However we never rode the full route. Thanks go out to Rich and his team and to all the happy bikepackers out there on the trail.
We had a great social ride were 6 of us made our way around parts of the route.
I'll post a film up in a week or so but here's some pics for now.

@Vortexracing - Great pics. I rode past your set-up on Sunday morning, the Welsh flags made me grin (my father-in-law is Welsh!). You boys all had a late start, there wasn't much sign of life when I rode past.

That's a good suggestion. I wouldn't of thought to check that.

Not needed now though as the frame supplier has kindly paid for the taxi and is getting the frame picked up for repair...👍

@eskay, it was summittoppler with the Welsh flag, I'm from Chorley, ain't no Welsh in me 😉

We also rode past summittoppler just alongside Loughrigg Tarn, I must admit it looked a cracking little campsite they found.

The one on the Langdale road near Elterwater, wanted £10 each to lie down in a bivvy, :-0

Pushed up then down Hardknott, got my photo taken with some amazed London based tourists who thought I was some sort of epic adventurer 😂, pushed along what I’m now calling death valley then up and down Wrynose. Finally got phone signal then a £50 taxi back to Staveley.

I kept an eye out for you driving home just in case....

I'd suggest a piece of cardboard with Staveley written on it would make a useful addition to the emergency kit.......

As I was trudging along I did think of how handy a pen and a bit of paper would of been... I'll add that to my packing list for next time.

Absolutely cracking weekend. Great to see so many different people and set ups out on the trails and the weather was kind once again. Thanks so much for organising Rich. I've written a few words about our weekend here if anyone's interested: https://helenandhills.wordpress.com/2021/06/29/jennride-2021/

@helen.and.hills

Great write up! I bumped into you and Sarah a couple of times and had a chat, first in Grizedale and the second on the Harknott Pass. I was chatting to a local rider at the bottom of Hardknott and he said we needed to go up it, my Garmin was saying otherwise but he seemed to know what he was talking about. He realised the mistake part way up (at which point I was committed so unintentionally cut a section off). You advised I had dodged a bullet!!!

Ah yes! You were the "guy in blue". We were well impressed watching you make it up Wrynose! Hope you had a great ride. I wonder what happened to that poor sod who dropped all the way down Hardknott just to go up Harter Fell?!

@helen.and.hills I was the one that rode to Chapel Stile for water Sunday morning, and Ambleside for a Chinese Saturday night, *waves
Was nice to meet you both again, my ride took a turn for the worse after we left you at Loughrigg, I had a big otb in a rocky stream and landed on my head and both hands, so the descents after that were taken at a slightly more sedate pace 😂
I presume it was the group at Rydal Cave that gave you some grief, I don't think we saw any others?

@dienamic - hi! Thanks so much for the water on Sunday, it was so bloody hot! Think you must win the prize for the group with the most A&E trips at the end of the weekend! Hope you heal up quickly. And yeah, it was the Rydal cave group - nothing major, they were just making annoying comments about "birds on bikes" that ruined our vibe somewhat 🙂

It was really great to meet you guys again - see you next year?!

A great write up from Helen.and.hills. You’ve really summed up the weekend perfectly. I think we shared the early ferry trip across Windermere. It was my first jennride and at that point I wasn’t really sure what to expect. It was the hardest weekend of riding I think I’ve ever done but easily the most rewarding. Jennriders are an ace bunch of folk. Now missing the mountains and all who made the weekend such a mind blowing experience. Big thanks to all and especially Rich! (PS If anyone found a pair of large Dakine knee pads maybe you could message me. They were lost on the descent down to Loughrigg Terrace).

Cracking weekend & such a great atmosphere all around the Lakes. Lots of really friendly walkers & other riders taking an interest in what was going on.

@Bro1968 - I'm assuming you were my riding buddy for the weekend? It was great to meet & ride with you!

djflexure - A pleasure to meet you & your son at the Cafe in Coniston & join you on the 'big push' up Walna Scar (I was on the Purple Stooge)

Helen.and.hills - I bivvy'd not far from you & witnessed the skinny dippers! I thought I dreamt the bongo's, wasn't someone wailing at some point too or did I dream that? Great write up

ton- Pleasure to meet you too

Hey Hoff it was indeed me. Likewise, it was an absolute pleasure to ride alongside you, maybe more behind you! I would’ve gone hungry too if you hadn’t shown this newbie bikepacker how to use his stove! 🤣🤣🤣

Enjoyed reading other rider's experiences during the event and noticed a few people I spoke to.

Mick Knight (Hoff) I am sure you are fellow (ex) Bristolian who I was talking to in the field on Friday night and Neale Brodie who I was chatting to in the Coniston petrol station (at which point I was oblivious to the climb that was about to start!!!!).

Here's a very short edit from my ride last weekend. I've another 20 minute version going on my YouTube channel over the next couple of days.
But for now turn up the volume and enjoy the ride:
