I'm just about to get my lad a Jeffsy..... He's got a bit of spare cash so was looking at upgrading the shock from the basic Deluxe..... What are people running and how's the clearance with a piggy back shock. Thanks in advance.

I’m running a Rock Shox super deluxe coil on mine. 210 x 55 gives 10mm more travel and it fits my large frame no probs. Pretty good value too at about £500.

A coil works really well on the Jeffsy due to its progressive suspension design. Totally recommended upgrade - I much prefer the way it feels to the air shock. Much more sensitive but still doesn’t bob wildly when going uphill. I rarely use the lockout.

Can still fit a fidlock bottle too.

I’d post a picture but it never seems to work for me these days. So here’s a link to a pic on Pinkbike instead:

CC DB Coil on mine. Works great

I knew it would improve the DH performance but it made the bike better on the climbs and flats too.

Plenty of clearance but I don’t bother with a water bottle.

Ideally I would stick a coil on it but he's only 14 and doesn't weigh to even start to break the coil through its travel so it will have to be a air shock....hows the clearance with the piggy back?

As in between the piggy back and the frame? Miles away... no issues. Pro Race versions come with piggy back air shock from the factory.

Get the stock shock tuned. If like you say your son is light and won’t move a coil then the damping on an air shock will be too much for him as well.

His shock on his old bike was a deluxe and he was on the limit for sag.... I was going to have a look at tuning tomorrow.

Fitted a Fox DPX2 to mine, no issues with the piggy back but mine is an XXL.
I've tended to run air shocks on my lads bikes as they're easier to set up and tune as they get bigger and heavier.
