I've been a fan of my since I got it a couple of years ago. I've just treated it (and myself) to a Cane Creek Helm Coil shock as an upgrade from the stock Fox 34 (which are actually quite good since I had them PUSH'ed - they just don't feel like a coil and after the coil on my DH bike and the coil shock on the Jeffsy, there's no way round it, I just love the feel of coil springs).
I've had them adjusted to 150mm travel as a quick skim through various forums suggests that it's ok on the Jeffsy, which as stock has 140mm travel front and back. If I really don't get on it's pretty easy to drop them back to 140mm anyway. The fork also has a tiny little bit less offset (44mm on the helm vs 46mm stock). My first rad shred ride round the yard felt really good but am wondering if anyone else has any experience with a 150mm on a Jeffsy 29er (the older shape from 2016/2017)? I've always run the flip chip in the lower/slacker position.
Any thoughts or advice? I'm full of cold at the moment so probably won't get a proper ride out with them this weekend.
150mm Lyriks on 2017 29er Jeffsy Carbon pro....and it’s awesome! Tempted to try 160 but that might be overkill for my skill level!
150 still good for the ups, better on the downs...although gone from pikes to lyriks so that makes a difference too.
That's more or less the consensus that I've been getting from reading around. Some seem to think 160mm is a bit too much. To be honest with 140mm it was certainly not bad (did a good few days in the bike park in Val d'Isere/Tignes on it and survived), just thought that (a little bit) more is better đŸ™‚
150 Ribbon coil on mine, way better and no drawbacks to climbing, I dropped a spacer under the stem to keep the bar height the same.
What flip chip setting do you folk use? The high or low?
Keep it on low.
Never changed from Low
So, in case anyone comes across this in the future, you were all right. Had a cracking ride out today.
1) the fork change has not ruined the bike. On the contrary, it's brilliant at 150mm. The fork has a slightly smaller offset (44mm) and I don't know if it's that or the half degree angle change or whatever, but the steering is much less "flip-floppy" or twitchy at low speeds. Maybe confirmation bias, but really feels very good indeed.
2) The Helm Coil is absolutely brilliant. As I said at the top, the 34 Performance Elite set up as I had it with a PUSH tune and MRP ramp control was quite a nice fork. Now I know that the new ones are brand new and freshly greased and what have you by the amazing folks at TFTuned, but the fork is an absolute gem.
