considering a hose change on my avid CR's

I had a set of these on XT brakes.

Last year in the Alps I managed to blister the front hose near the calliper, presumably due to a hot caliper/fittings, sufficient that the hose burst. I could just about accept this if it happened out back and I'd been dragging the rear brake all day, 🙂 but not on the front.

only a month or 2 old (the lines) - I'd bought them when I changed frames, and needed longer lines.

After failure, I took the brakes off and replaced them with Saints.

Have had Jagwire Hyflow hoses on my DH bike for over a year no problems. Fitted to Saint M810 brakes - they get a hard life but hoses still good.

@vinnyeh. We're bummed to hear about your hose failure and are of course interested to see what happened with the hose. Please send me a message at info@jagwireusa.com and we'll get you set up with some new hose for the Saints and matching housing if you'd like.

Dear Jagwire.

I went to purchase a set of Gold hoses today for my bike and was basically told not to bother as the braided hoses on my Five were better.

Guess what...I bought some overshoes instead.

If you would like to talk about this it would be worth knowing who your dealers are that dismiss your products.

I would guess they have not actually used the Hyflow hoses. The Jagwire hoses are as good as the Goodridge/Hope braided. Previous to the Hyflows I ran both makes of steel braided hoses + brake feel/action was no different when I swapped over to the Hyflows. If you are a weight weenie than the Hyflows are pretty light compared to stainless braided.

@zangolin- thats a good point only needs 1 bad report back and I think most fitted bikes that are brought wouldn't necessarily have this sort of set fitted as standard.
Ive always been a goodridge fan from my motorbike racing days but never fitted them to my trial bike. which is why i was looking for the feed back on the jagwires

Thanks Zangolin.

I was really genuinely keen to place an order today.

If you look at the posts that I have made then you will see that a few months back I asked about where I could get some gold hoses from.

What annoyed me was that i rang the dealers and said what I wanted, so in my lunch hour went to buy them and they basically said not to bother based on their experience. All around me though were Jagwire cable kits!

I admit to being vain as it is the colour that wants me to make the change!

Also worth noting is that my Five came with Jagwire gear cables as standard.

No the quote was from Curvature above - when he went into his LBS to buy Hyflows.

Not saying anymore but James from Jagwire has sent me a few emails and I am very impressed with his response.

There is nothing wrong with the standard braided hoses on my Five, i just wanted some gold hoses to add a bit of colour but my local store was not very helpful at all!

Hopefully in a short time i'll post a review of their products and service.

Thanks James.

I've used a couple of sets of Jagwire hoses on different brakes over the last 2 years and to be honest I haven't thought about them or had any worries or even noticed them really. They just do the job they're intended to do. The 1st set replaced some kinked Avid hoses and the 2nd set was purely for colour matching. No problems with leaking or kinking.
They do seem to be fit and forget.
