Some time ago, I bought a pair of the Rivendell Jack Brown tyres from PX in the light weight green spec. They were a "good" price as I was thinking they would be close to Compasses for less moolah. On the whole, they ARE lovely to ride with, but unfortunately have all the puncture protection of an old condom.
I may just have been unlucky with screws and thorns, but I haven't had this much trouble before.
So, in trying to give them some protection while trying to preserve the general supple ride, do I go for tyre liners or some sealant jollop? Or go back to Paselas?
I can;t help you, but you've helped me feel better about buying the JB blues. I've been riding round, puncture free (touch wood!), wondering how much nicer the greens might be.
They are nice to ride with, no doubt about it. Its just that I seem to have picked up a lot of punctures, compared to the Paselas I was using before. Kinda wish Id gone for the Blues, which are hardly millstones in comparison.
Light casings in flat-prone shocker : ) I had the same experiences with Panaracer Pari-Motos. Lovely to ride but flatted more than anything else I've ridden, so I've not bothered with the even-thinner Compass tyres despite being sold on the suppler ride feel some tyres have. Depends where/what you ride.
So much of the improved feel comes from a thin tread area, not just the sidewalls. Liners might be worth a try but they might not feel any better than a lower-faff, thicker tyre.
Yeah, a bit of emperors-new-clothes I think. I'll try some tyre liners as they're quite cheap and probably only make up the difference to the JB blues.
