…and I’m excited about building a new bike for the track.

So let’s have a track bike show and tell.

To be honest, that's pretty much end of thread - what do I win?

Nice, chain looks a bit slack though?

Track slack, less friction or something like that

That's quite glitzy.

Dolan Seta?

Chain is spot on, you don't want it too tight.
Stem is flipped as well now, it was set up for Madison when that pic was taken.

Dolan Seta?

No, custom build.

Trouble with track bikes is there's not much bling on them, which may be a good thing even if it leads to fairly dull photos;

Dolan (now in the loft)

and it's replacement, lighter frame and better wheels (record on ambrosio ultralights as opposed to open pro commuter wheels on the Dolan) on which I won £5 last season 😀

Unfortunately bling is not really on my radar at the moment. A combination of saving a deposit for a house and a girlfriend imposed 3 bike limit means I’m looking at a Dolan Pre Cursa frame and forks with the parts dragged over from my slightly knackered Langster. It also has to be (with the addition of a brake) my commuter, road bike and transport to the track.

Nice to look at other peoples bikes and dream though.

Whilst bling is always nice I'm not sure it makes as much difference in outdoor track racing as other disciplines, the bikes are all much of a muchness and disc / bling wheels are fairly few and far between. My dolan up there had my langster wheels and bars and was second hand to me. The planet x frame was a present otherwise I would have kept with the Dolan. My first few sessions at Herne hill were on my commuter langster with the gearing upped / flipped and lever free bars but it was good / safe enough. where are you racing?

Wouldn't go so far as to say that I'll be racing, not yet anyway, but I'll be wheezing through as many sessions as it's possible to squeeze in at Herne Hill.

Not as light as you'd think, track bikes tend to be built for stiffness rather than weight.

To be fair, mine was also secondhand and while it's a full custom build, it was originally built for a pro rider who just happens to be my size. I got the bike very cheap. 🙂 And no, I am not worthy of the World Championship stripes or the gold colour...

I've only ever used it indoors so far but I'll try and get in an outdoor race at HH sometime this year. Used to race there as a kid.

Once you've done the inductions the monday night sessions at HH are very good, they teach the basics of racing doing one variation of race (sprint, elimination, scratch) each week on a rolling basis and don't mind if you just stick at doing those sessions without racing and they also have a slightly faster group as well

Cheers Kilo, upon further investigation the Monday night sessions look perfect? It would appear they're now doing a C group for fun/novice racing on Wednesdays too, I might well give racing a go a bit later in the season.
