I did too, but very few cyclists this morning.
Busy on the roads around York though.

I drove in today, purely because I was too lazy to get my bike out of the car last night! 😳

I always cycle to work, so maybe I'll drive today.

Working from home, so no.

But since you've posted it and it's not hissing it down, Ive changed my mind and will cycle jr into skool this morning rather than be a lazy arse and drive it.

thanks. Better get a move on then....

Yep, just like every day.
I did see at least two more cyclists than normal this morning though.

OI! Stop riding on my trails! I use these all year you know!

gits.

Yes, like I do every thursday (OH's day to use the car). No more cyclists than normal and no sign of anything going on to mark it. No free bacon butties for me 🙁

The stairs between the kitchen and office are a bit steep for a bike. But the kids went to school on them, like normal.

Yep, same as normal although today I was rewarded with a free coffee & croissant for my efforts.

Didn't seem to have made much difference on the streets of Manchester, not sure there were any more cyclists than normal. Seemed to be the same amount of bellend driving as usual...

Yep, same as every other day!

Rather amusingly, with the London Tri on this weekend, lots of folks are clearly arriving in town this morning to get set up, so my commute was full to bursting with folks mincing along on full on tri set ups, with big rucksacks of kit on their backs!

All cycling life is here.....

not today 🙁 my knees are hurting so I'm on a little rest. I have ridden to work pretty much every day for the last 30 years though so I don't feel bad . Not sure today would be a good day to ride anyway if there are loads of inexperienced cyclists in Central London.

I'm such a lazy git I couldn't be bothered to type this all over again 🙄

Don't forget to smile as you spin through red lights, cut up kerbs, zip past old folk, slam brake in front of meandering students looking down at their phones, scuttle up one way streets the wrong way, get gutter rash by being squeezed by taxis, loose your false teeth from bouncing along potholes, sweating like a pig from Strava KOMs, dribbling coffee down your suit whilst negotiating one handed right turns through pedestrian crossings, stopping to tie up that loose pannier or saddle bag, trap your right trews leg in the chain (yet again) get soaked by a short sharp shower and finally end up at work to find office security won't allow you to bring your foldie into the office..

Just a Day?

Highlighting how poor the whole cycling infrastructure is in this country.

Saying that I'll put money on Cycling friendly countries such as Holland, Spain and Denmark don't have a Cycle to work Day? Don't need one.

Just managed it. Usually do 4 out of 5 times a week I'd say, but today I'm rather hungover and miserable but persuaded myself to.

tacopowell - "Holland is a region and former province located on the western coast of the Netherlands. The term Holland is also frequently used as a pars pro toto to refer to the whole of the country of the Netherlands. This usage is generally accepted, but disliked by part of the Dutch population, especially in the other parts of the Netherlands"

Just so you know. 🙂

No, I've got a dodgy knee so I'm on a rest week. Didn't ride last night either. Bah. Usually ride in at least a couple of times a week though.

I dropped the nipper off at the child minder, rode that bike home, swapped bike and rode into work.

I work from home on Thursdays but decided to come in to the office just for cycle to work day.

I'm (allegedly) working from home. (I've checked my emails)

Does this mean I have to use the turbo trainer?

Getting a little brighter in That London's City of London now, Kimbers.

In Madrid very few people ride to work, not sure about the other Spanish towns and cities.

I rode to work 🙂

Kick started me into doing the first commute of the year. The need to drop the kids off at breakfast club has meant that I've not biked in all year. However due to being able to dodge the traffic, the ride in today took just as long as the car! I think I'll be riding in more often.

Yup, I rode my "commuter*" the mile to work.

*AKA pink bike, which is a pink ladies shopping bike which is too small for me, but it was free, has panniers and no one is going to nick it.

11 mile commute to work, as I do every day.

Didn't notice anyone extra out, just the usual faces, but then it is a bit damp.

By the way, Sustrans have a Cycle To Work day competition for a chance to win a years free insurance, a Wingman Suit Bag (but not the contents sadly), or a regional map.

I work from home, but I'm going to have a session on the turbo trainer in the front room at lunch.

Does that count?

Rode in again, as usual.

I think there might be one new bike in the office bike stands, but that's about it.

Blindly following national 'let's get enthusiastic over something' policies does not seem to be the Liverpool way. 🙂

Wasn't there one of these in July as well, that was equally well publicised and was similarly a massive success in convincing people to get on their bikes? (fwiw I rode in, as I always do 🙂 didn't see any more people than usual on bikes though)

dunno who rode in here, but the way the weather is looking, they might prefer to canoe back home, and hope they have troutie lights too.

seems kinda strange day to have a bike to work day. we have a whole 2 months (which finished the other day).

I work from home, but went out for an hour on the road bike before I started my shift. So when I arrived at work, for work, I'd ridden there. Now where's my cyclescheme voucher?

it's my weekly 16 hour day and had crankbrat to drop at nursery. So no I don't fancy ridding home at 1am given the way the local taxis drive through leeds at that time. I ride in every other day though.

I did - 15 miles dressed for a crisp autumnal day.

It's a shame it was so hot and sticky, I kept removing layers and sticking them in my thigh pockets until I looked like a legs version of popeye.

Sweated like a peado in a barney suit.

I rode to work today, same as I do most workdays. Come to think of it I possibly did see one or two more cyclists than I normally do, too.

I had planned one of my (infrequent) commutes to work (it is 26 miles each way, after all - with an ascent of the North Downs at the end) so, when I found out that it was cycle to work day, I had no excuse.

The weather sort of cooperated and, following the first wet muddy night ride of the autumn, I awoke to find the roads still damp from the overnight rain.

Early morning rides are ace, as you have that certain smugness which comes from knowing you've got up early enough to have the roads pretty much to yourself.

Just as it was getting light, I flushed an owl off his perch at the side of a quiet lane, and he rewarded my efforts by flying alongside me for a while (you don't get that on the motorway)

The other bonuses of the day was that I found an alternative route that avoided a hill and a wait to turn right, and that quite a few of the roads on my route have been resurfaced with ultra smooth tarmac - yippee!

Just wish I worked nearer, so I could do it more often.

Didn't see anyone else on the roads but did have a hard time getting parked at work, bikes everywhere- cycle to work day sucks balls 🙁

One of my colleagues decided to ride in. 20 miles, not been on a bike in 10 years, got halfway to the office before she gave up and called a taxi to take her home, then called in sick 😆 Got to admire the attempt.

I did - 95 miles done today, half three alarm for a half seven start this morning, finished at half three this afternoon and home about half seven. Tired. But got a KOM, so it's all worthwhile.

One of my colleagues decided to ride in. 20 miles, not been on a bike in 10 years, got halfway to the office before she gave up and called a taxi to take her home, then called in sick Got to admire the attempt.

Made my day. 🙂

I like that a lot.

Commuted as usual (via school with a cycling 7 year old) and if anything the roads seemed quieter with regard to cyclists (weather's been okay here). Perhaps the problem was the unfortunate scheduling clash with national "Drive like a nob" day, or was that just a Leeds thing today?

Yes, as per every day. First ride of autumn in bib 3/4 roubaix and a thermal jacket. A bit too toasty. And the best bike will now be hibernating. Commuted on the fixed road bike with full guards.

On the plus side, i bought a Topeak defender iglow for winter group riding on the race bike. It lasted 5 min before being moved to Son2's bike 😆
