...and I'd like to do something mountain bike related preferably abroad.

Maybe a big foreign off-road ride like the Passport du Soleil or similar. What would you do?

Any suggestions?

A mate and I are planning an MTB tour of Scottish distillerys for our 50th - think it was advertised either on here or in the mag a few years back....

50 here as well in October.
Tour Divide in 2018 gets my vote.

Me too*. Also want to go somewhere ace on the new bike.

Thought about the Midi Pyrénées...

*By which time I'll have lost three stone 🙂

Given the funds I'd go touring for 6 months. Maybe the Cascade Range and down the Sierra Cascades route.

I made a list of 50 things to do over a year (idea ripped off from Carol Vorderman) some big, some small. Some a first and things I wouldn't normally do. I only got through about half as I injured my knee (which sadly killed one of the major things I wanted to do which was an off-piste backcountry ski week)

The PdS is a day long not that exciting a ride, maybe do the event with friends as part of say a 3-4 day riding weekend. You could treat yourself to a guided week somewhere. Depends if you want mates or family to join in which case you have to find things to suit them.

Good luck and best wishes

Why ? Take him with you, ride alternate days or half days. Switch long weekends with the wife

That's a shame.

Me too in Feb next year. Hoping for a BIG party in the flat field and a proper adventure type MTB trip abroad somewhere. I was thinking along lines of a crossing of the Alps on singletrack, staying in mountain huts and finishing at Lake Garda. Then a mate suggested being a bit more ambitious and hitting the Himalayas or South America, which has got me thinking 🙂
