Not been on a bike since the start of July last year when a broke my clavicle.
Walked round for 12 weeks without sugery and it didn't heal.
Had a plate put in a September and the bone has been very slow healing.
Last xray was around 5 weeks ago and though it still showed a crack under the plate at least it had eventually started to heal.
Been doing physio for months and still have some restricked movement and pain but very slowly getting better. Got another xray in a couple of weeks when I hope I'll get the all clear.
Today I though **** it I'm going out for a ride anyway.
It felt SO good to be able to ride again.
Just an XC loop of 15 miles to see how things felt, but no problems at all.
Ached a bit on the long climb to the highest point but pretty pain free on the way down.😁
I've missed riding so much.
Lets just hope they give me the OK to ride again in a couple of weeks so I can start to get back into some more fun trails.

Whoop!
Whoop indeed.
Nice - congratulations on your recovery. Agree it is really very nice to be back on it 🙂
Welcome back, it’s a great feeling to be on the bike after a long layoff
Excellent. Nice bike.👍
Nice one 👍
Just be careful tho - too much too soon can be a problem - I broke my back in 4 places 11 months ago and I went at it a bit too hard about 3 months ago and it set me back - not worth it - take your time and heal well 👍

I need to be shown something like this from time to time to remind me that, yes, I may be older and slower than I’d like but I can at least still ride and that I should appreciate that fact more than I sometimes do.
And also how lucky I am to live where I do, Ballaugh on the Isle of Man, with great riding of all sorts right on my doorstep.
I’ve been riding these places for over fifty years, on one thing or another - it’s as if I’m part of them or they of me...
I know what you mean Andy
I've really not been coping very well without being able to ride.
It's felt like a big part of me is missing.
Been racing and riding offroad in many different forms for close to 50 years and then having to suddenly stop was pretty hard on me mentaly.
Excellent news - keep pushing, just not too hard!
Good work Stu - glad to hear you can finally ride that new Marino. Looking decent now - ideal xc machine with the angles you specced 🤣
I’m 52, up until 2017 i had never been seriously injured, but o 30-12-17 i slipped on ice and fractured my ankle quite badly. 5” plate, 2 pins and 6 screws to fix.
I was non weight bearing for 6 weeks, and off work for 22 weeks, but now, more than 3 years later i rarely get any trouble from it.
Like many others I’m glad i can still ride my bike, and ice skate, but I’m definitely a little more careful than i was before that day.
I still have a tendency to walk around staring at the ground right in front of my feet though, despite sincere efforts to stop it.
For me, it was the first time i could open up and give it full power, nothing beats that feeling.
ideal xc machine with the angles you specced
It's the closest thing I have to an XC bike.😁
It's also not new. I've not swapped everything over to the new frame yet.
Seemed a bit pointless when I wasn't able to ride.
Great one! Enjoy the re-found freedom
