I picked this up yesterday-

It's a GT Zaskar LE, and as luck would have it it's a 1996 which will go lovely with my 1996 Bravado.

why's it awful to ride? Too stiff? Are you gonna ride it? and what will you be riding?

Very nice. My mate has the same bike. Got the same XT on my Diamond Back Ascent. My DB has no suspension.... still did Snowden on it in the day. Doesn't stop, even with Koolstop Salmon pads...

Nicely made but I don't remember the function being particularly lovely - In fact you had to buy a beefier aftermarket spring so that the 96 XT mech had enough strength to move the mech and tension the cable once it got remotely muddy 🙂

Maybe, I might wheel it out once in a while for a potter up the coast.

I've still got a 2001 zaskar race frame in the shed. It is beautiful but brutally uncomfortable, all the shock transfers direct to your spine.

That's very nice and 8 speed xt with an xtr mech was about the peak of reliability/longevity I reckon.

The one problem with those late 90s bikes is no disc brake mounts. I have a lovely Schwinn Homegrown USA frame, battered and scratched but soooo light and fast on rolling open terrain, twisty Singletrack and long climbs.

But the rear brake is and always will be a bit shit. It's in bits. I can't bring myself to skip it but equally when it was last built it didn't get ridden for 18 months.
