Hi all
I noticed a topic about ISM saddles for road and mtb. This got me very interested as my wife and I have experienced pain when on long rides over rough terrain. We moved from hybrids to mountain bikes a while ago. I contacted the UK commander for ISM and he recommended a couple of saddles to me. He also said that they do not take the sit bone measurement into account.
The problem is, that obviously my wifes sit bones are wider than mine. Should I use the recommendations as a guide and select a saddle that will be within the sit bone measurements or go with his suggestion?
I have looked at many videos to give me some idea.
Any further updated information or help would be gratefully received.
Steve
I'd go with his recommendation, they know their stuff. I have ISM's in all my bikes, road, MTB, gravel and track. The setup vids on the ISM site are essential once you actually get the saddle.
Many thanks iainc. I will do that. Its quite a learning curve with thwse saddles and its nice to get feedback.
some people who don't get on with them try and set them up like regular saddles, which they aren't, and then find them uncomfortable. Once set up correctly, for many people, they are really really good. I swopped a month or so before going for some major surgery, and after a few weeks getting used to different pressure points I haven't looked back. It does take a good 4 - 6 hrs of rides to get the sit bones used to taking most of the load.
Would it be an idea to check the saddles width so that it would accommodate the sit bones? Otherwise if you had it too narrow, surely it would create pain as the sit bones would not be in the correct position?
I think I am going to contact ISM about this as I want to make sure. Just want the right saddle for both of us so we can enjoy longer journeys without too much pain.
Cheers
I have Peak, or as now labelled PM ones on 3 MTBs and PL versions on the 3 drop bar bikes. The PN ones (performance narrow) are the really slim versions, but not available in MTB guise.
I’d say the MTB version, which is Peak or PM would be a good start for you both on MTBs
i am on a ism typhoon saddle. reccommended by iainc.
just perfect really.
Do they not still do a rental so you can try a few?
Got them on all my bikes, but did manage to snap a saddle rail on the oldest on the mtb (cx remount from my 63kg bulk). Expensive so I need to mail to see if I can buy replacement parts.
They do have a rental service but I think a bit more research and your advice should help me out.
Many thanks for the info so far.
